"Emoji - the new global language ?" - The days of English as a global language may be coming to an end - it might be replaced in the near future by icons of smiley faces, cats and hearts. More than 90% of social networking users communicate through these symbols and more than 6 billion emojis are exchanged every day. The word emoji, which comes from the Japanese e (“picture”) + moji (“character”), are single-character glyphs created in Japan in the late 1990s, but which only reached a global audience in 2011 when Apple included them in the IOS 5 operating system.

Do you know what happens to injured dogs in Bangalore? You might have seen one or two on the street, and might have looked away, or maybe even shed a tear. But what we gleaned from TM Delshad's excellent speech today is there an organisation tackling this exact problem: ALAI or Animal Lives Are Important. They have rescued over 1300 dogs, and vaccinated over a 1000 dogs in Bangalore. Do give their website a look (https://alairescues.org).
A critical component of effective public speaking is having great content to say. TM Nitesh walked us through some of the important aspects of writing a good speech which can be seen from the excellent slides he shared with us. We certainly had a lot of important takeaways from his educational session. He also mentioned a wonderful quote from Warren Buffett, "If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need".
We also had a fun-filled Table Topics session today which was a game of silent charades played by all participants. We're often so hooked on what we say that we forget how we say it. Non-verbal communication like gestures and facial expressions is an important skill to have, and we practiced that in today's TTM session.
All in all, not a bad day's work!
We conduct online Zoom meetings at Indiranagar Pride every Sunday from 5-7 PM.
Look forward to seeing everyone there.
