International Yoga Day Celebration at GMC Baramulla

GMC Baramulla marked International Yoga Day with a series of events highlighting the importance of yoga in both personal and professional life.
The program began with the live telecast of the Honourable Prime Minister’s address, attended virtually by the Principal, Medical Superintendent, faculty, and staff of the college.
Following this, the celebration continued under the Ayush Unit of GMC Baramulla. Principal Prof. Dr. Majid Jahangir addressed the gathering, emphasizing the role of yoga in maintaining balance and well-being in daily life. He was joined by Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent, who spoke about the significance of yoga in a hospital setting, underlining its value for both healthcare providers and patients.
Together, their speeches reinforced the message that yoga is not just a practice but a lifestyle that promotes holistic health and resilience.

Two-Day Research Methodology Workshop Successfully Conducted at GMC Baramulla
Baramulla, June 18, 2026: The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla, successfully organized a two-day Biomedical Research Methodology Workshop for MD/MS/DNB Postgraduate Scholars on 17th and 18th June 2026, with the aim of strengthening research skills and promoting a culture of scientific inquiry among postgraduate students.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir, Principal, GMC Baramulla, who emphasized the pivotal role of research in advancing medical science and improving healthcare delivery.
The academic sessions over the two days were conducted by Dr. Zahid Ali Khan, Head, Department of Community Medicine; Dr. Uruj, Associate Professor; along with other faculty from department of community medicine.
The workshop also included research proposal framing and presentation by the faculty, along with pre- and post-tests and a valedictory session.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from postgraduate scholars, who actively engaged in the academic sessions and interactive discussions throughout the two days. The programme provided an excellent platform for learning, exchange of ideas, and enhancing research competencies among young medical professionals.
The two-day workshop concluded successfully, reaffirming the commitment of the Department of Community Medicine, GMC Baramulla, to fostering a vibrant research culture and strengthening postgraduate medical education through regular academic initiatives.

GMC Baramulla celebrated World Blood Donor Day
Baramulla 14th june
On the eve of World Blood Donor Day, the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (Blood Centre) at GMC Baramulla organized a successful in-house voluntary blood donation camp. The event was inaugurated by Principal Prof. Dr. Majid Jahangir, accompanied by Medical Superintendent Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Registrar acedemics Dr Shafqat Ahmad lone ,Head of the Blood Centre Dr. Saadat Nazir Shah and HOD pathology Dr Baba Iqbal.
Leading by example, the Medical Superintendent of GMC Baramulla donated blood alongside faculty members, with active participation from civil society NGOs, the 53 Battalion CRPF, Police Line Baramulla, and GMC employees.
The camp achieved remarkable success with over 100 donations, held under this year’s inspiring theme: “One Drop of Humanity – Give Blood, Save Lives.”
All voluntary donors were felicitated in recognition of their invaluable contribution.

Multidisciplinary Health Awareness & Screening Camp at RHTC Kalantra
Baramulla 12th June 2026
A multidisciplinary Awareness cm Screening Health Camp was organized at the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Kalantra, by the Department of Community Medicine, GMC Baramulla, in collaboration with the Departments of Paediatrics and Dermatology on 12th June 2026.
The camp focused on early screening, clinical evaluation, health counselling, and awareness regarding preventive healthcare, nutrition, hygiene, and timely medical consultation, strengthening healthcare outreach for the rural community.
Patients requiring further evaluation were referred to GMC Baramulla for specialized care.
The Department expressed gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir, Principal, GMC Baramulla, for his continued support and guidance in promoting community health initiatives.

Mega Eye camp conducted by GMC Baramulla
Baramulla, June 11th: A Mega Eye Camp under the banner of “Operation Drishti” was successfully organized and conducted by the Department of Ophthalmology, GMC Baramulla, in collaboration with Dagger Division, Baramulla, on 11 June 2026 at Bipin Rawat Stadium, Baramulla.
More than 300 patients from Baramulla and adjoining areas, primarily elderly individuals, were examined. Comprehensive ophthalmic screening was carried out for various eye diseases, including cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, refractive errors, allergic and infective eye diseases, dry eye syndrome, pterygium, age-related retinal disorders, as well as other causes of visual impairment. Beneficiaries received counselling, medical advice, and treatment recommendations.
Patients with cataract and other sight-threatening conditions requiring specialized care were referred for advanced evaluation and treatment.
The Department deputed Dr. Shabana Khan (Associate Professor), Dr. Khan Mohd Hussain Gulam (Senior Postgraduate Diploma), Dr. Vidhyadhar Gangadhar (Postgraduate Diploma), Dr. Arsalan Rasool Lone (Junior Resident), and Mr. Naseer Ahmad Rather (Technical Assistant/Technician) to provide specialized ophthalmic services during the camp.
Dr. Abdul Wahab Bhat, Head of Ophthalmology, GMC Baramulla, expressed gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir, Principal, for his unwavering support and guidance, which greatly contributed to the Department’s successful participation in this vital community outreach initiative promoting eye health and preventing avoidable blindness.

Comprehensive Cleft Care CME/CDE 2026 at GMC Baramulla
Baramulla, June 10: The Department of Dentistry, Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, successfully organized a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme on “Comprehensive Cleft Care: A Holistic Approach Towards Cleft Lip and Palate Patients”. The event focused on raising awareness, promoting early intervention, and strengthening multidisciplinary care for cleft patients.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid (IAS), graced the inaugural session as Chief Guest, while Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kaur, Principal/Dean, Government Dental College (GDC) Srinagar, attended as Guest of Honour.
The programme was held under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir, Principal/Dean GMC Baramulla, with support from Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent GMC Baramulla; Prof. (Dr.) Shafkat Ahmed Lone, Registrar Academics and Head, Department of ENT; Prof. (Dr.) H.U. Malik, President IDA; and Dr. Omer Hussain Misger, Head, Department of Dentistry and Organizing Secretary.
During the inaugural session, dignitaries inspected stalls showcasing awareness materials, treatment modalities, and initiatives related to cleft care and oral health.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner commended the Department of Dentistry for organizing the programme and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to healthcare initiatives. He emphasized early identification and timely management of cleft cases, urging the team to conduct awareness and screening camps in peripheral and remote areas. He also highlighted the objectives of the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan and acknowledged GMC Baramulla’s role in rehabilitation and awareness programmes.
He further encouraged the organizers to extend similar initiatives to far-flung areas under the Vibrant Village Programme to ensure healthcare access for underserved communities.
Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kaur congratulated GMC Baramulla for introducing comprehensive cleft care services and stressed the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration for holistic treatment. Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir also praised the Dentistry Department for strengthening specialized healthcare services in the district.
The CME/CDE programme aimed to sensitize frontline healthcare workers, including ASHA workers, ANMs, and midwives, on early identification of cleft cases, feeding techniques, psychosocial support, and timely referrals.
More than 250 delegates participated, including Heads of Departments from GMC Baramulla,GDC Srinagar, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, GMC Anantnag, and GMC Doda, along with doctors from peripheral institutions and healthcare workers across Baramulla district.

Blood Donation Camp by GMC Baramulla
Baramulla 6th June 2026
The Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (Blood Centre), GMC Baramulla, in collaboration with We Care Cancer Patients Trust, successfully organized an outdoor blood donation camp at Gutiyar, Baramulla.
The event was honored by the gracious presence of DC Baramulla, Dr. Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid (IAS), who appreciated the efforts of the Blood Centre for promoting safe transfusion practices. He also commended the voluntary donors for their selfless contribution to this noble cause.
A total of 50 pints of blood were collected during the camp, marking a significant step toward supporting patients in need and strengthening community health services.
