πŸ‘οΈ The Human Eye

The human eye functions like a natural camera. Light enters through the cornea and pupil, while the lens focuses the light onto the retina. The retina contains photoreceptor cells called rods and cones that convert light into electrical signals. These signals travel through the optic nerve to the brain, where they are interpreted as images.

πŸ”¬ Key Fact:
The eye forms a real, inverted image on the retina, but the brain processes it so we perceive the world in the correct orientation.

Human evolution is the gradual process by which modern humans developed from ancient ape-like ancestors over millions of years. Scientists believe that humans and modern apes share a common ancestor that lived about 6–7 million years ago. Early human ancestors evolved features such as walking upright, larger brains, and the ability to make and use tools. Important stages in human evolution include species like Australopithecus, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, and finally Homo sapiens. Modern humans first appeared in Africa about 300,000 years ago and later spread across the world. Human evolution is supported by evidence from fossils, genetics, and archaeological discoveries.

A galvanic cell (or voltaic cell) is an electrochemical cell that converts chemical energy into electrical energy through a spontaneous redox (oxidation-reduction) reaction.

Main Parts:

* Anode: Electrode where oxidation occurs (loss of electrons).
* Cathode: Electrode where reduction occurs (gain of electrons).
* Salt Bridge: Maintains electrical neutrality by allowing ion movement between the solutions.
* External Circuit: Allows the flow of electrons from anode to cathode.

Working:

* Electrons are released at the anode and flow through the external circuit to the cathode.
* This flow of electrons produces electric current.

Example:
The Daniell cell uses zinc and copper electrodes:

* Anode: Zinc (Zn β†’ Zn²⁺ + 2e⁻)
* Cathode: Copper (Cu²⁺ + 2e⁻ β†’ Cu)

Applications:

* Batteries
* Power sources for electronic devices
* Electrochemical sensors

Definition: A galvanic cell is a device that generates electricity from a spontaneous chemical reaction.
