*Sensory Motor Development in Early Childhood*
*Guest Facilitator: Ms. Sathya, Montessori Facilitator & Physiotherapist*
We were privileged to host Ms. Sathya from the Montessori Department for an illuminating session on _‘Sensory Motor Development in Early Childhood’_ with our faculty and colleagues.
Bringing a unique blend of clinical expertise and classroom wisdom, Ms. Sathya is a Physiotherapy graduate with rich experience at Narayana Hrudayalaya and MIOT Hospitals. In 2015, her journey took a purposeful turn toward early childhood education. Today, with nearly a decade as a dedicated Montessori Facilitator, she bridges science and pedagogy with rare insight.
*Why Sensory-Motor Development Matters*
Sensory-motor development forms the foundation of all early learning. Long before children engage with letters and numbers, they build their understanding of the world through movement and sensory experiences — touching, crawling, balancing, and exploring.
These seemingly simple activities create strong brain connections that directly support attention span, coordination, language development, and emotional regulation. Regular sensory-motor engagement leads to better concentration, refined motor skills, and a natural readiness for academic learning.
As Ms. Sathya beautifully reminded us, _movement is not separate from learning — it is learning_. When we honour a child’s need to move and sense, we nurture confident, capable, and joyful learners.
We are grateful to Ms. Sathya for sharing her treasure trove of knowledge and reaffirming our commitment to developmentally respectful education.

We are delighted to share that Rohini, HOD – English (CBSE Junior School), has successfully completed a 12-hour self-paced online Professional Development Course offered by the British Council. The programme focused on supporting teachers’ professional growth through effective training, collaboration and reflective teaching practices.
The course provided valuable insights into designing meaningful professional development programmes that encourage continuous learning among educators. It explored practical strategies such as peer mentoring, collaborative learning, classroom observation and reflective practices that help create a positive and supportive learning culture within schools.
A key takeaway from the programme was the importance of building strong Communities of Practice among teachers, encouraging peer learning and shared growth. Our Montessori teachers recently participated in an enriching one-day workshop led by Priti Venkatesan, Unit Head of Indigo Heartful Kids, on the insightful topic “Decoding Symbols: Unlocking the Reading Process.”
The session explored how strong reading skills are nurtured from the very beginning, even before a child opens a book. Teachers gained valuable insights into preparing both the mind and body for effective reading and learned practical strategies such as visual tracking, chunking, guided reading, use of context and visual clues, modelling, and neurological impress methods.
The workshop highlighted the importance of identifying the root causes of reading difficulties and providing structured support to help every child grow into a confident and fluent reader.
Adding to the experience, we also had a unique and calming sound healing session conducted by Kalpana Manoj Patil. The session created a peaceful space for reflection, relaxation, and renewed focus — a truly refreshing experience for both mind and spirit.

In the nurturing world of Montessori education, the well-being of educators is just as important as the growth of the children they guide each day. Believing that healthy and balanced teachers create positive and enriching learning environments, we recently organized a special Professional Development session on “Summer Wellness” for our Montessori faculty, led by naturopathy and acupuncture practitioner Arun CJ.
The session offered meaningful insights into maintaining balance between the body’s internal systems and elemental energies during the summer season. Faculty members learned the importance of hydration, healthy sleep routines, and simple lifestyle practices that help the body stay naturally cool and energized.
Mr. Arun introduced the concept of the “Triple Burner” and emphasized the value of sleeping by 9:30 PM to support the body’s natural cooling process. He also shared practical wellness habits such as oil baths, saltwater gargling, mindful water intake, and reducing excessive AC usage.
The discussion also focused on summer-friendly nutrition, encouraging simple fermented foods and water-rich vegetables while avoiding foods that increase internal heat, such as spicy, fried, and sour items. Gentle physical practices like Surya Namaskar were recommended to maintain balance and vitality.
This enriching workshop empowered our teachers with holistic wellness practices that support both personal health and professional well-being — because healthy teachers create healthy learning environments for children. 💚
