The Department of Economics is proud to inform you that our *TYBA Economics* student *Manas Patil* (along with his friends) has won the *first prize* at the *India Australia Circular Economy Hackathon* ( A flagship event for entrepreneurs in the first phase of startup and Small Size Businesses who need funding. This hackathon is recognised by both, Indian and Australian government along with CSIRO and Atal Innovative (under NITI Aayog)).
He and his school friends (who are in IIT right now) had begun with a startup- BURPP technologies India Pvt Ltd. four months ago. The main objective is to save food. A lot of food is wasted in restaurants, parties and Biryani houses. All the surplus food left at the end of the day is mostly thrown out. Instead of throwing away the food, they decided to sell it at a lower cost than normal. For this they developed two apps (one for the food supplier and one for the customer). This would connect restaurants who have surplus food left to people who want to have perfectly good quality food at lower prices. Their main target demographic is taxi wale and people who are on move as the food is already ready.
As of now the app is almost developed along with the website, and with a team of 15 people (including interns). their venture is now being funded by NITI Aayog.
