Secretary, DAHD, Government of India visited DUVASU; emphasizes strengthening of Veterinary infrastructure
Uttar Pradesh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, had the privilege of hosting Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar, Secretary, Dept of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Min of FAHD (DAHD), Government of India, during his visit on 17–18 June 2026.
During the visit, Shri Gangwar reviewed the University's academic, research, clinical, and livestock development activities. He visited the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC), the Livestock Farm Complex (LFC), laboratories, instructional facilities, and the University's specialized Goat Unit, where he took keen interest in the advanced breeding and reproductive biotechnology programmes being undertaken by the University.
A major highlight of the visit was his interaction at the Goat Unit, where he reviewed one of India's pioneering Goat Semen Freezing Facilities. He appreciated the University's efforts in genetic improvement, conservation, and dissemination of superior goat germplasm and discussed the potential role of such technologies in enhancing small ruminant productivity and rural livelihoods.
During his visit, Shri Gangwar also participated in a tree plantation programme under the national campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, reaffirming the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability. The plantation symbolized the shared commitment of the University and the Department towards creating a greener and healthier future.
Shri Gangwar also interacted with faculty members, scientists, students, and researchers during an Interactive Session held at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Auditorium. The discussions focused on animal health, livestock productivity, dairy development, entrepreneurship, innovation, skill development, and future opportunities in the livestock sector.
In his address, Shri Gangwar emphasized the critical need for strengthening veterinary infrastructure, including modern clinical facilities, diagnostic laboratories, advanced breeding systems, and technology-enabled animal health services. He underscored the importance of veterinary institutions in supporting livestock productivity, disease control, rural prosperity, and food and nutritional security. He encouraged students and researchers to develop practical, field-oriented solutions that directly benefit farmers and livestock owners.
Welcoming the Secretary, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra highlighted DUVASU's contributions in education, research, innovation, extension, and capacity building. He reaffirmed the University's commitment to developing advanced technologies and skilled human resources for the sustainable growth of the livestock, dairy, fisheries, and goat sectors.
The visit provided an important platform for strengthening collaboration between DUVASU and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. The University expressed its sincere gratitude to Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar for his valuable guidance, encouragement, and inspiring interaction with the DUVASU community.
