Today, IRClass - Indian Register of Shipping marked Day of the Seafarer 2026 with a curated display exhibition today, showcasing a rich collection of maritime history and literature dedicated to our seafaring community."
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by IRClass - Indian Register of Shipping Executive Chairman Mr. Arun Sharma and Guest of Honour Capt. Savio Ramos, General Secretary of the
Maritime Union of India, in the presence of our senior management and IRS Team.
Speaking on the challenges modern mariners face, Capt. Savio Ramos stated:
"On the Day of the Seafarer, we celebrate the men and women whose dedication keeps global trade moving and economies connected. As we recognize their invaluable contribution, we must also address the growing concern of the criminalisation of seafarers. Maritime professionals should not face unjust treatment for incidents beyond their control. Ensuring fair treatment, legal protection, and respect for seafarers is essential to sustaining a safe, resilient, and responsible maritime industry."
