Ancient stadiums. Physics labs. Athlete training sessions. Sports storytelling workshops. Know what they all have in common? They were all part of the journey in Nike’s Flight, one of our modules this term in Greece. 🇬🇷

Students had the opportunity to explore the legacy of the Olympic Games firsthand, from the marble tracks of the Panathenaic Stadium to the sacred grounds of Olympia.
But they weren’t just visitors; they were researchers, using physics to break down the mechanics of victory. 🔍🏃‍♂️

By analyzing force, momentum, and center of mass, students discovered that excellence is as much about science as it is about spirit. As student Ben B. noted: “Sport is a manifestation of physics.”

The highlight was an intimate session with Olympian Aggeliki Gerolymou, who shared the grit behind the gold, from the discipline of an Olympic diet to the training required for elite performance.

For students like Liam F., meeting a real Olympian brought the realities of world-class competition into focus. 🥇

Through the lens of the Greek ideal of Areté, the cohort learned that whether you’re competing for an ancient olive wreath or a modern gold medal, the pursuit of excellence remains remarkably similar. ✨

Democracy hits a little different when you’re standing where it all began. 🇬🇷

In the PynX Factor module, students explored the political and philosophical legacy of Ancient Greece by debating in the shadow of the Pnyx (the hillside where Athenians once gathered to debate and vote), walking through the Agora, and contemplating one enduring question: Was Athens ever truly democratic?

At the same time, students connected those ancient debates to modern Greece through experiences like:

⚖️ Political Accountability: Met with to discuss the modern fight against corruption.
🤝 Social Justice: Explored homelessness and social safety nets through the eyes of the Schedia Social Justice Tour.
🗳️ Modern Power: Examined how migration, media, and protest continue to reshape Greece today.

Our time in Greece proved that politics isn’t just something you study in a textbook. It’s walking through protest squares. Questioning narratives. Realizing democracy has and always will be messy, unfinished, and deeply human.

Turns out the best place to study power is where people are still actively negotiating it every day. ⚡🏛️
