A Report.
Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Melli Gumpa, under the National To***co Control Programme (NTCP), has been actively implementing To***co-Free Educational Institution (ToFEI) activities and promoting awareness on to***co control through the display of ToFEI boards, posters, and other awareness materials within and around the school premises.
Following incidents of vandalism and damage to several awareness posters and materials displayed by the school, a written complaint was submitted to the Station House Officer (SHO), Melli Police Station, vide Ref. No. 068/MGSSS/2026 dated 08 June 2026, requesting inspection and necessary action.
In response to the complaint, police personnel from Melli Police Station visited the school on 10 June 2026 to inspect the affected locations. The team examined the sites where the awareness materials had been damaged and interacted with school authorities regarding the incident. The police personnel assessed the situation, recorded the details provided by the school, and assured necessary follow-up action as per procedure.
The school administration extended full cooperation during the inspection and shared relevant information and photographic evidence related to the vandalized awareness materials. The visit reinforced the importance of safeguarding public awareness initiatives and maintaining a supportive environment for to***co-control activities.
Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Melli Gumpa remains committed to promoting the objectives of the National To***co Control Programme and ensuring continued compliance with ToFEI and COTPA guidelines.

Our athletes displayed remarkable determination, discipline, and sportsmanship, bringing laurels to the school through their excellent performances.

World Environment Day was observed at Melli Gumpa Senior Secondary School on 5th June 2026 with the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future." The programme was organized in coordination with the School Eco Club and National Service Scheme(NSS).
To mark the occasion, various awareness activities were conducted, including a painting competition, essay writing competition, and an environmental Speech & quiz during the morning assembly. These activities encouraged students to express their ideas on environmental conservation and sustainable living.
A sapling plantation drive was also carried out within the school premises, involving students representing different Clubs of the school, teachers, parents and SMC members and pledging to protect and nurture the environment under the campaign name "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" as per the notice Ref. No. 1553/264/EEP-SEAT&ED dated 03/06/2026 from the Office of the Additional Director-cum-Nodal Officer (EEP), Forest and Environment Department, Govt. of Sikkim, which is an initiative of the Govt. Of India and implemented by the Sikkim Govt, as well.
Number of saplings planted: 10+ saplings, as mandated for SSS category schools.
This event highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, climate action, and collective responsibility towards building a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.

On 1st June 2026, Melli Gumpa Senior Secondary School celebrated United Nations Global Parents Day along with the Class XII Outgoing Farewell Programme. Parents were specially invited to the programme in recognition of their invaluable role in the growth and success of their children.
The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, respected Shri G.P. Sharma Sir, CEO, Namchi. We were also honoured to invite Madam Anupa Tamling, DC Namchi, as the Chief Guest, however, due to unavoidable circumstances, she was unable to attend the programme.The programme also highlighted the remarkable achievements of our students in the Kho-Kho Boys' and Girls' categories. Trophy & Certificates of achievement were distributed by the Guest of Honour, CEO sir, who congratulated the students for their outstanding performance and dedication in sports.
Also witnessed the formal handover of School Almanacs and Identity Cards to SMC members.The occasion was marked by appreciation, encouragement, and heartfelt wishes for the outgoing Class XII students as they embark on a new chapter of their lives.

Melli Gumpa SSS performed best at 3rd District Level Athletic Meet 2026... ☺️❣️🤗
Students of Melli Gumpa Senior Secondary School participated in the 3rd Edition of District Level Athletic Meet 2026 held on May 30, 2026 at Namchi Public School Playground.
The event was organized by the Namchi District Athletic Association (NDAA) with support from the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Namchi.
Our students brought laurels to the school with their outstanding performance as the following results speak:-
1. Navya Rasaily (Class IX) secured 2nd Position in Long Jump.
2. Wangyal Tamang (Class IX) secured 3rd Position in Javelin, 3rd Position in Shot Put, and 3rd Position in Long Jump.
3. Bandana (Class IX) secured 1st Position in 400m and 2nd Position in Shot Put.
4. Reshma secured 1st Position in 60m, 1st Position in Long Jump, and 2nd Position in 600m.
5. Lasang Tamang (Class XI) secured 1st Position in Javelin.
6. Pendup Dorjee Tamang (Class X) secured 2nd Position in Shot Put and 1st Position in Javelin.
7. Prayash Rai (Class IX) secured 3rd Position in Shot Put.
8. Aman secured 2nd Position in Javelin.
9. A***n secured 1st Position in Long Jump.
10. Dawa Tamang (Class IX) secured 2nd Position in 200m.

Every year, World No To***co Day is observed on 31 May to raise awareness about the harmful effects of to***co use. Melli Gumpa Senior Secondary School also celebrated this day on 29 May 2026, as 31 May 2026 is a holiday.
The day was marked with various awareness activities including painting competition, rally, morning assembly speech & Quiz featuring on the dangers of to***co consumption.
The programme was organized with the active participation of Health & Wellness Club (H&WC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Prahari Club, Eco Club, Red Ribbon Club(RRC),and Legal Literacy Club(LLC).
Through these activities students were motivated about a healthy lifestyle and saying no to to***co consumption which effects our health tremendously.

“EVERY ENDING IS A NEW BEGINNING.”
With gratitude, love, and heartfelt emotions, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Melli Gumpa, Namchi District organised a memorable Farewell Programme 2026 on 14th May 2026 to honour the outgoing teachers, Mrs. Malika Thapa (Nepali PGT), Mr. Bikram Chhetri (PEI), Ms. Aruna Pradhan (IT Faculty) and felicitate Retired H.A, Mr. Narad Prasad Upadhya for his dedicated years of sincere service to the institution.
The programme began with the warm receiving and welcoming of guests, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and offering of Khada-Mala by the Principal and Vice-Principal. The welcome address was delivered by the School Administrative In-Charge Mr. K. K. Rai highlighting the importance of gratitude and togetherness within the school family.
The occasion was beautifully enriched with farewell songs, colourful dances, duet performances, and cultural presentations by the students, making the atmosphere emotional yet joyful.
A felicitation letter dedicated to Retired HA Mr. Narad Prasad Upadhya was read out by Mrs. Kalpana Rai, followed by the presentation of felicitation and tokens of love to the outgoing members by the school administration, staff, and students.
Special moments of the programme included the acceptance speech by Mr. Bikram Chettri (Transferred PEI), special time dedicated to Mrs. Malika Thapa (Transferred Nepali PGT), and the inspiring words of blessings shared by Retired HA Mr. Narad Prasad Upadhya.
Principal Mr. Sanjoy Acharyya also addressed the gathering and expressed sincere appreciation for the valuable contributions made by the outgoing staff members towards the growth and success of the institution.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Miss Dibya Pradhan, followed by refreshment and lunch.
