SGC Namchi Celebrates NAAC B+ Accreditation, Signifying Milestone in Educational Excellence
Sikkim Government College (SGC) Namchi has been awarded a B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an improvement from its previous B grade received in 2018. This new accreditation, announced following a recent NAAC evaluation, underscores the college's commitment to enhancing the quality of education and meeting the standards set by the council.
The NAAC peer team, led by Prof. R.S. Meena from Banaras Hindu University, conducted an on-site assessment on February 12 and 13, 2025. The team reviewed all seven criteria outlined by NAAC, including infrastructure, student support, governance, research innovation, and institutional values. The evaluation included interactive sessions with faculty, students, alumni, and parents, and featured a cultural program showcasing the talents of SGC Namchi students.
In the past five years, SGC Namchi has made significant progress by introducing postgraduate programs in Geography, Education, and Commerce. The college has also upgraded its facilities with the establishment of smart classrooms, the functionalization of boys' and girls' hostels, and the initiation of a new science building.
Expressing gratitude for the support received, Principal Dr. Deepak Tewari acknowledged the State government's role in providing modern infrastructure and resources. He also commended the Directorate of Higher Education for their assistance throughout the accreditation process.
“This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire community—staff, students, alumni, and parents,” said Dr. Tewari. “Your combined efforts have strengthened our institution's foundation and inspired us to pursue excellence in education.”
With this new B+ grade, SGC Namchi is well-positioned to continue its mission of fostering a vibrant academic environment and delivering high-quality education.
