A gardening activity was conducted on 27th February 2026 at 11:00 AM in the college allocated premises. The event was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, with the participation of II- Semester, Honors student, and faculty members.
The activity aimed to promote environmental awareness, enhance the aesthetic appeal of the campus, and encourage sustainable practices
among students. Activities included cleaning of the allocated premises with plugging, trimming and watering of plants and flowers .
The event was successfully completed with active participation and enthusiasm from everyone involved. The garden area now looks greener
and more vibrant, reflecting the collective effort of the students.

Smooth and Transparent SRC Elections 2025 Held at Sikkim Government College, Namchi

Namchi, November 21: Kunga Thinley Tamang has been elected as the new President of Sikkim Government College, Namchi, securing 432 votes in the Student Representative Council (SRC) Elections 2025 held on Friday. Likewise, Nima Dorjee Lepcha was elected as the General Secretary, while Tarun Thapa was elected Treasurer unopposed.

Sikkim Government College, Namchi successfully conducted the SRC Elections 2025 with an impressive 71.8% voter turnout, showcasing strong student participation and democratic enthusiasm across the campus. The election process began in early November with extensive preparations and concluded smoothly on polling day.

The successful conduct of the elections reflects the dedication of the Core Election Committee, chaired by Dr. Deepak Tiwari, Principal, SGC Namchi and further Mr. Royal Rai and Dr. Kamal Poudyal, who served as Election Commissioners I and II respectively.

The Core Committee further included: Mr. Lakpa Gyalpo Sherpa, Administrative Officer, Mrs. Reena Rai, Under Secretary, Dr. Sanjaya Kumar S***a, Vice-Principal, Dr. Yugal Kishore Khanal, Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Dilli Ram Sharma, Assistant Professor, Mr. Saran Kumar Chettri, Assistant Professor, Miss Yangchen Bhutia, Assistant Professor and Depend S***a, Assistant Professor, along with several other faculty and non-teaching staff deputed across various committees to ensure a seamless election process.

As per the annual practice, the SRC elections were conducted in the presence of external observers to ensure transparency and fairness. This year’s observers included: Mr. Nim Pintso Bhutia, SDM (HQ), DAC Namchi, Mr. Santosh Rai, Deputy Director, HRDD, Mr. Asish Bhujel, SHO, Namchi Police Station, Mr. Siddharth S***a, SI, Namchi Police Station, Mr. Deepen Rai, Special Branch along with other officials.

To ensure security and smooth movement across the campus, police personnel from Namchi Police Station were stationed at every booth and at strategic points in and around the college premises

Principal Dr. Deepak Tiwari congratulated the newly elected representatives and emphasized the vital role of the SRC in nurturing leadership, promoting student welfare, and strengthening coordination between the student body and the administration. The college administration extended gratitude to all committee members, observers, security personnel, faculty, staff, and students for their collective effort in making the SRC Elections 2025 a grand success.

Sikkim Government College Namchi Hosts Social Welfare Department Program on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan



Sikkim Government College, Namchi successfully hosted an awareness programme on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, on November 18, 2025. The initiative, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched on August 15, 2020, marks five years of nationwide efforts toward reducing substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.

The event saw active participation from students, faculty members, and officials of the Social Welfare Department. Three key resource persons addressed the gathering on critical issues related to drug abuse, addiction, and preventive measures. The speakers included; Mr. Ram Tamang, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, Ms. Shristika Kharel, Welfare Inspector, Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, Mr. Suren Gurung, Male Nurse, Centre for Addiction Medicine, Chuwatar, Singtam.

The programme commenced with an online pledge led by Ms. Kharel, reaffirming the collective commitment toward creating a drug-free environment.

Addressing the students, Mr. Ram Tamang emphasized the importance of community engagement and warned against social isolation, which often leads individuals, especially youth to seek belonging through substance use.

Mr. Suren Gurung, speaking on the progression of addiction, highlighted how seemingly harmless habits can gradually evolve into serious dependence if not checked early.

The session was hosted by Dr. Yugal Kishore Khanal, Dean of Student Affairs, SGC Namchi. Ms. Diki Ongmoo Lepcha, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, delivered the welcome address, stressing that awareness and early education serve as the first line of defence against addiction.

Dr. Deepak Tiwari, Principal, Sikkim Government College, Namchi, graced the programme and appreciated the efforts of the Social Welfare Department in spreading awareness among the youth. The programme concluded with a note of vote of thanks by Dr. Santosh S***a, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Sikkim Government College Namchi.

Date: 17/11/2025 Mock Drill on Multy Hazard Successfully Conducted at Sikkim Government College, Namchi

A comprehensive Mock Drill on Disaster Management was successfully conducted at Sikkim Government College, Namchi with the active participation of students, faculty members, and multiple emergency response agencies.
The drill was organized to enhance preparedness, awareness, and response capacity among students and staff in the event of natural and man-made disasters. The exercise aimed to provide hands-on experience in evacuation procedures, first aid, search and rescue operations, and coordination with emergency services.
Key agencies and departments actively participated in the mock drill such as State Disaster Management Team, Fire & Emergency Services Department, Sikkim Police and Medical Team
During the simulated earthquake and fire outbreak scenarios, students participated enthusiastically and followed all safety protocols under the guidance of the disaster management experts. Demonstrations on firefighting techniques, safe evacuation, basic life support and emergency communication procedures were conducted.
The participating teams also highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness, timely response, and community resilience. The mock drill served as an important learning opportunity, reinforcing the need for coordinated efforts during emergencies.
The college administration expressed gratitude to all participating departments and appreciated the commitment of students towards safety training.

SWAYAM Orientation Programme

The SWAYAM Committee of Sikkim Government College (SGC), Namchi, South Sikkim, successfully organized a SWAYAM Orientation Programme on 16th October 2025. The programme was graced and chaired by Professor Yodida Bhutia, NEP Chairperson and Head of the Department of Education, Sikkim University (SU), accompanied by other esteemed SWAYAM members from the university.

The session proved to be highly enriching, marked by insightful deliberations and discussions led by Professor Bhutia and her team. Their presentations provided valuable perspectives on the significance and implementation of the SWAYAM platform in higher education.

An interactive session followed, enabling productive exchanges between the visiting SWAYAM team from SU, the mentors of SGC Namchi, and postgraduate students from the Departments of Education and Geography. Participants also benefited from a hands-on training session that guided them through the process of downloading, installing, and registering for various courses available on the SWAYAM platform.

The SWAYAM Committee of SGC Namchi extends its heartfelt gratitude to the SWAYAM members from Sikkim University for their time, support, and valuable deliberation, which made the programme a meaningful and impactful learning experience.

Dr. Santosh S***a Delivers Special Talk at Khangchendzonga State University

Gangtok, October 13, 2025: Dr. Santosh S***a, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Sikkim Government College, Namchi, delivered a talk in a Special Talk Series organized by the Department of Limbu, Khangchendzonga State University (KSU), Gangtok.
Dr. S***a delivered a presentation on the topic “Indigenous Knowledge System of the Limbu Community and Its Scope under NEP 2020.” His talk offered an insightful overview of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing the importance of integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) into mainstream education.
The session highlighted key areas such as:
The meaning and significance of Indigenous Knowledge Systems
The NEP 2020 mandate concerning IKS
Indigenous knowledge traditions of the Limbu community
The scope and challenges of promoting IKS within educational frameworks

Renowned Folk Artist Showcase the Rich Heritage of Nepali Musical Instruments

A special cultural programme was organized in the College Auditorium of Sikkim Government College, Namchi.

The event featured Mr. Bom Bahadur Limbu from Omchung, Gyalshing, accompanied by his youngest son Mr. Tumyahang Limboo, who showcased his exceptional talent in playing the traditional/folk musical instruments of Sikkimese culture, including Beenayo, Muchunga, Tungna/Yalambar, and Chari Baja. His live performance reflected the rich cultural heritage and traditional art forms of Sikkim.

The programme was graced by the presence of the Principal, Dean; Students’ Affairs, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students of the college. The gathering appreciated the Mr. Limbu’s contribution to preserving and promoting Sikkim’s indigenous musical instruments.

In recognition of his efforts and cultural contribution, the college presented him with a memento and a token amount of cash as a gesture of appreciation.

The event concluded with a note of gratitude for facilitating such cultural exposure among the students and fostering appreciation for traditional arts.

ETCPL Conducts Career Guidance Programme at Sikkim Government College, Namchi

Namchi - 10/09/25: A Career Guidance Programme was organized by EMPORIUM TRAINING & CONSULTANCY Pvt Ltd (ETCPL) at the college auditorium, exclusively for the final-year (fifth-semester) students of all departments.
The resource persons for the session were Mr. Anirban Mukherjee, Operations Manager, and Ms. Pooja Pradhan from ETCPL. The session emphasized the importance of skill development and its relevance in today’s competitive job market.
The resource persons informed the students about ETCPL’s active engagement in training and placement across sectors such as Aviation, Hospitality, and Cruise Lines. They also highlighted the company’s placement drives, shared details of their partner organizations, and showcased inspiring success stories of candidates placed in various reputed companies across India and abroad.
Students were briefed about the upcoming placement drives and made aware of the eligibility criteria required to participate. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students’ queries were addressed in detail.
Overall, the programme proved to be highly informative and beneficial for students across all streams, equipping them with valuable insights into career opportunities and placement prospects.

Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim University Visits Sikkim Government College, Namchi

Namchi, August 30, 2025: Sikkim Government College, Namchi, had the honor of hosting Prof. S.K. Swain, Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim University, during his special visit to the campus on Saturday.
The Vice-Chancellor was accorded a warm welcome by Dr. Deepak Tewari, Principal, Dr. Dewan Rai, Vice Principal, Dr. Yugal Kishore Khanal, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mr. Lakpa Gyalpo Sherpa, Administrative Officer, Mrs. Reena Rai, Under Secretary, senior faculty members, and non-teaching staff.
Prof. Swain toured various sections of the campus, including the Science Block, laboratories, and other key infrastructure facilities. He took a keen interest in observing the college’s academic environment, research culture, and extracurricular setup.
In an engaging interaction with the College team, the Vice-Chancellor was briefed about the college’s academic programmes, innovative teaching-learning practices, research initiatives, student support services, and outreach activities.
Prof. Swain expressed his satisfaction with the overall academic environment of the college and the positive initiatives adopted to enhance academic excellence.
