Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan chaired the State-Level Consultative Workshop on “Strengthening Cybersecurity Frameworks for State Data,” organized by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the Directorate of IT & Support Services (IT&SS), University of Kashmir.

The inaugural session was attended by Commissioner Secretary, Information Technology Department, Saurabh Bhagat; Registrar, University of Kashmir, Prof. Naseer Iqbal & Director, Directorate of IT&SS, Dr. Maroof Qadri; and along with senior government officials, academicians, cybersecurity professionals, and technology experts.

The workshop aims to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of government institutions by fostering collaboration among policymakers, administrators, industry experts, and academia. It seeks to identify emerging cyber threats, discuss best practices for securing state data and digital infrastructure, and develop strategies for enhancing cyber resilience across departments. The deliberations are also expected to contribute towards formulating robust cybersecurity policies, promoting capacity building, and ensuring the secure delivery of digital governance services in Jammu and Kashmir.

University of Kashmir, through its National Innovation Foundation ( NIF) cell successfully organized a Student Mentorship Workshop under the INSPIRE Awards–MANAK Scheme at the Institute of Technology (IoT), Zakura Campus.

The workshop brought together 10 selected student innovators from different districts of Jammu & Kashmir, along with their mentor teachers, following their successful participation in the District and State Level Exhibition and Project Competitions.

The programme aimed at refining innovative student projects for participation in the forthcoming National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC).

During the workshop, experts provided valuable guidance on innovation design, technical feasibility, presentation skills and effective communication of ideas.

Addressing the valedictory session, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar, University of Kashmir and Prof. M. Tariq Banday, Chairman, NIF Cell J&K and Director, Institute of Technology appreciated the creativity and scientific temperament demonstrated by the young innovators and encouraged them to continue pursuing innovative solutions to societal challenges.

The workshop also facilitated hands-on support for prototype development and fabrication, reaffirming the University's commitment to nurturing innovation, scientific inquiry and entrepreneurship among the youth of Jammu & Kashmir.

The University of Kashmir today celebrated Olympic Day with great enthusiasm, sporting spirit, and active participation of its employees by organizing an Inter-Staff Football Tournament at Ground “B”.

Organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPE&S), the event reflects the University's continued commitment to promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect among members of the university fraternity.

The tournament was formally inaugurated on Olympic Day, reinforcing the message of mass participation in sports and encouraging employees to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.

Football Tournament Highlights
• A total of 10 teams are participating in the tournament, being conducted on a league-cum-knockout basis.

• In the opening fixture, Team Green delivered a dominant performance, defeating Team Red 10-0. The match featured an outstanding display by G.R. Malik, University Security Officer, who scored 4 goals for Team Green.

• In the second match, Team White outclassed Team Blue to secure a convincing 5-0 victory.

Employees’ Table Tennis Tournament – Quarterfinal Results
Meanwhile Dr. Yahya Bakhtiyar defeated Mohd. Shami 2-1 in a closely contested match.
• Tauseef Khan overcame Dr. Amin with a comfortable 2-0 victory.
• Mirza Irshad outplayed Asim Banday 2-0.
• Rouf Inam defeated Dr. Younis by an identical 2-0 margin.

The semifinal and final matches of the Employees’ Table Tennis Tournament will be held on Wednesday, June 24.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Surjeet Singh, Coordinator, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, highlighted the significance of Olympic Day and emphasized the importance of greater participation in sports and recreational activities. He urged employees to actively engage in sporting events and become ambassadors of fitness and healthy living within society.

Dr. Singh also informed that the Directorate is all set to launch a series of Inter-Department and Inter-College Tournaments from the first week of July, providing students and employees with enhanced opportunities to participate in competitive sports throughout the academic year.

The football tournament is being coordinated by Dr. Basharat Ali, Assistant Director, DPE&S, University of Kashmir.

The University of Kashmir proudly partnered as the Institutional Partner for the prestigious Srinagar–Nalanda Dialogue 2026, organized under the aegis of the Nalanda Literature Festival at SKICC, Srinagar. The event brought together distinguished scholars, policymakers, writers, artists, academicians and literature enthusiasts from across the country to deliberate on the theme “Governance, Tourism & Literature: Promoting the Legacy, Language & Literature of India.”
The programme was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of preserving India’s rich literary and cultural heritage while strengthening dialogue, knowledge-sharing and cultural tourism.
The event witnessed the presence of several eminent personalities, including Dr. Karan Singh, renowned statesman and scholar, and Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, whose insightful deliberations enriched the discussions on literature, governance, culture and nation-building.
The Valedictory Session was graced by Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, as the Guest of Honour. In her address, Prof. Khan underscored the transformative role of literature, education and cultural engagement in fostering understanding, inclusivity and intellectual growth. She reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, cultural dialogue and the preservation of India’s diverse literary traditions.
The Srinagar–Nalanda Dialogue 2026 served as a vibrant platform for intellectual exchange, cultural expression and meaningful conversations, reaffirming the enduring connection between the Valley of Kashmir and the historic seat of learning at Nalanda.

The University of Kashmir today celebrated International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 at the Varsity's Athletic Track, Sports Ground, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, officers and staff members. The programme was organized by the Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports (DPES), University of Kashmir.
The event, held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” ( ), was led by Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Nilofer Khan, who joined hundreds of participants in performing various yoga asanas and breathing exercises aimed at promoting physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Among those present were Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal; Dean Students’ Welfare, Prof. Seema Singh; Coordinator DPES, Dr. Surjeet Singh; Chief Proctor, Prof. Imtiaz Khan, besides faculty members, officers, students and non-teaching staff of the University.
While.administering the Yoga pledge on the occasion, Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a holistic way of life that nurtures harmony between the mind and body. She highlighted the importance of integrating yoga into daily routines to enhance overall well-being, manage stress and promote a healthier and more balanced lifestyle across all age groups.
The programme witnessed active participation and reflected the University’s commitment to promoting wellness, mindfulness and healthy living within the campus community.
