International Yoga Day Celebration 2026

GD Goenka Public School, Srinagar celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and spirit on 20th June 2026. The event aimed to promote the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being, emotional balance, and a healthy lifestyle among students.

The celebration commenced with a special assembly conducted by the students of Grades I and II. Through informative speeches, thoughtful presentations, and engaging performances, the young learners highlighted the significance of yoga and its role in enhancing concentration, reducing stress, and improving overall health. Their confident participation conveyed a strong message about the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life.

Following the assembly, a yoga session was organized in which students from Grades IV to VII actively participated. Under proper guidance, the students performed various yoga asanas with confidence, discipline, and enthusiasm. The session showcased the benefits of regular yoga practice in improving flexibility, strength, posture, and mental focus. Students also learned how yoga helps in developing self-awareness, inner peace, and a positive outlook towards life.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the value of healthy living and inspired students to embrace yoga as a lifelong practice for physical and mental well-being.

Drinks Day is Fun. Warm weather means lot of good things but it also means more thirst!
UKG G.D. GOENKA Public school Srinagar organised quencher’s Day to familiarise students with the importance of staying hydrated and the value of healthy homemade beverages. Students actively participated and prepared an assortment of refreshing drinks, including Mango Mojito, Lemonade, Chocolate Drink, Basil Drink, Mango Shake, and Buttermilk.
The activity provided hands-on learning as students explored ingredients, measurements, and nutritional benefits while showcasing their presentation and communication skills. The enthusiasm and effort displayed by the students were truly commendable.

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.
The LKG students enthusiastically participated in a Fireless Cooking Activity organized as part of the school's experiential learning programme. Dressed as little chefs in colourful aprons and chef caps, the children eagerly prepared simple and nutritious dishes under the guidance of their teachers.
Guided by the vision of GD Goenka Public School, Srinagar – "Thrive for Life" and our mission of empowering every student with confidence, compassion, and curiosity, the activity reflected the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes experiential and holistic learning. Through measuring, mixing, spreading, and assembling ingredients, students developed fine motor skills, explored basic mathematical concepts, enriched their vocabulary, and learned the importance of healthy eating and hygiene.
The activity also fostered teamwork, sharing, patience, and cooperation as children worked together and proudly showcased their creations. The highlight of the day was when students sat together and enjoyed the dishes they had prepared, making the experience both meaningful and memorable.
The Fireless Cooking Activity was a joyful blend of learning and fun that encouraged creativity, communication, and practical life skills, helping our young learners grow with confidence, curiosity, and independence.

“Small chefs, sweet creations, zero flames, full celebrations!”
“Little Chef, Fireless Fun” was organized by the Nursery Department on Tuesday, 9th June 2026 at GD Goenka Public School, Srinagar. Our tiny chefs enjoyed preparing yummy fireless recipes like fruit Chaat, Veggie Salad, Jam Rolls, Sandwiches and Bread-Butter. The activity fostered creativity, independence, and healthy eating habits while enhancing fine motor skills, sensory exploration, early numeracy through measuring, sequencing and language development through peer interaction.
The initiative aligns with the NEP 2020 emphasis on experiential learning and reflects the school’s commitment to holistic development in the foundational years. Teachers observed heightened engagement, improved confidence in public speaking, and genuine curiosity about nutrition among the learners. The seamless ex*****on and 100% participation are a testament to the strong culture of innovation and teamwork nurtured within our department. A truly fun-filled day of learning by doing!

Healthy Tiffin Day Celebration

To promote healthy eating habits and create awareness about the importance of nutritious food, Healthy Tiffin Day was enthusiastically celebrated by students from UKG to Grade 2. Aligned with the classroom themes of Food and Health, the event provided children with a meaningful opportunity to explore nutrition through engaging and hands-on learning experiences.
Students proudly brought their favourite healthy food items and actively participated in a variety of age-appropriate activities designed to reinforce the importance of making healthy food choices.
UKG students brought learning to life through an engaging role-play activity on Healthy Food vs. Junk Food. Dressed as different food items, they confidently shared the benefits of nutritious foods and highlighted the ill effects of excessive junk food consumption.
Grade 1 students demonstrated their understanding of balanced nutrition by creating a Healthy Platter that included all essential food groups. They spoke enthusiastically about the role of proteins, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, and fats in maintaining good health and supporting growth.
Grade 2 students embraced experiential learning by preparing simple, nutritious snacks such as dry fruit and date sweets and healthy chaat. This activity encouraged creativity while helping them discover healthy alternatives to processed foods.
The celebration successfully enhanced students’ understanding of healthy eating, balanced diets, and essential nutrients while also developing their communication, collaboration, and presentation skills. Most importantly, it inspired children to adopt healthier lifestyle choices in an enjoyable and memorable way.
The success of this event was made possible through the constant encouragement and support of our esteemed Principal, Mr. P. J. Johnson, whose vision for holistic education continues to create meaningful learning experiences for students. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Adil Zargar (HR Director) his valuable support and cooperation in the smooth ex*****on of the event.
Healthy Tiffin Day was truly a celebration of healthy minds, healthy habits, and a healthier future for our young learners.

BICYCLE MARATHON – GRADES VI–VIII
Theme: “Pedal Against Drugs – Ride for a Healthy & Drug-Free Kashmir”
G D Goenka Public School, Srinagar successfully organized a Bicycle Marathon for students of Grades VI–VIII under the theme “Pedal Against Drugs – Ride for a Healthy & Drug-Free Kashmir.” The event aimed to promote physical fitness, healthy living, and create awareness among students about the importance of staying away from drugs and other harmful substances.
The marathon commenced from Nishat and concluded at Duck Park. Students participated with great enthusiasm and determination, demonstrating endurance, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the event. The initiative encouraged students to embrace a healthy lifestyle and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Adil Zargar, Director HR, who appreciated the efforts of the students and emphasized the importance of fitness and positive life choices.

On the occasion of the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, a Seminar was organised on Child Abuse and Human Trafficking for the students of the Higher Grades in the School Auditorium.
The seminar served as an important platform to raise awareness about child protection, human rights and the collective responsibility of creating a safe and nurturing environment for every child. Students participated enthusiastically and shared thoughtful perspectives on these pressing social issues.
The event was further enriched by the presence of our esteemed guest speakers Dr. Mir Junaid Alam from Law Department of Kashmir University and Ms. Nasiya Majeed from Law Department of KU, whose insightful deliberations inspired students to become informed, responsible and compassionate citizens. A felicitation ceremony was also held to honour the guests for their valuable contribution and participants for their meaningful and powerful presentations.

“Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high” these timeless words of Rabindranath Tagore echoed through the school campus as students, teachers, and dignitaries gathered to celebrate the Felicitation Ceremony of the Poem Writing Competition organised in his honour.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, seeking divine blessings for knowledge, wisdom, and creativity. The ceremony was dedicated to recognising the young poets whose words reflected imagination, compassion, and thoughtful expression.
Inspired by Tagore’s vision of a world enlightened by freedom of thought and creativity, students from Grades VI to IX penned remarkable poems on themes such as Simplicity of Life, Kindness and Humanity, and Imagination and Dreams. Through their verses, they conveyed powerful messages of hope, empathy, and the beauty of human values.
The gathering applauded not only the winners but also every participant who demonstrated the courage to transform thoughts into poetry and emotions into words. Their contributions made the competition a true celebration of literary excellence.

The winners were felicitated with certificates by Principal Mr. Johnson P.J. and Grade 7 Coordinator and organiser of the event, Ms. Shazia Mir, in recognition of their outstanding literary achievements.

A special highlight of the celebration was the release of a commemorative book featuring the selected poems and creative write-ups of the participating students. The publication served as a tribute to the literary talents of the young writers and provided them with a platform to showcase their creativity and original thought. Copies of the book were unveiled during the ceremony, marking a proud and memorable moment for the students, their parents, and the school community.

World Environment Day 2026: A Step Towards a Greener Future

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, GD Goenka School organised an inspiring awareness programme under the theme “Segregate Today, Sustain Tomorrow” on 05 June 2026. The event aimed to educate students about environmental conservation, responsible waste management, and the importance of adopting sustainable habits in everyday life.

The event was graced by distinguished guests from the Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee, including Er. Bilal Ahmad Khan (District Officer), Mr. Tanveer Ahmad Parray (Ecology and Environmental Sciences), Mr. Bilal Bashir (Junior Environmental Engineer), Ms. Sabiya Mahajan (Media), Ms. Kounsar Mehraj (Draft Person), and Mr. Aquib Ahmad (Field Assistant). Their presence added immense value to the occasion and provided students with an opportunity to learn from experts working in the field of environmental protection.

The gathering began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the formal welcome of guests through bouquet presentation.

The guest speakers delivered insightful addresses on pressing environmental issues, emphasising waste segregation, pollution control, plastic reduction, and the collective responsibility of citizens in safeguarding the environment.
