Why is Speed Measured in Knots in Aviation?
🪢🚢⚓✈️

Ever wonder why pilots don’t use km/h or mph? Instead, they measure speed in knots — and here’s why it makes perfect sense in the skies (and at sea).

The Nautical Origin:
The term "knot" dates back to early sailors who measured their ship's speed using a log line — a rope with knots tied at regular intervals.

-The rope was tossed overboard.
-Sailors counted how many knots passed through their hands in 30 seconds.
-Each knot represented 1 nautical mile per hour — giving birth to the term "knots."

So what’s a nautical mile?
It’s based on Earth’s geometry:
1 nautical mile = 1 minute of latitude = 1.852 km. That makes knots far more accurate for navigation, especially when flying or sailing across global coordinates.

In Aviation, It’s About Precision:

Aircraft navigate using latitude, longitude, and heading. Using knots keeps everything aligned with navigation systems.
Pilots, air traffic control, and global aviation all speak the same "language of speed."

1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour
Perfect for flight paths, global maps, and accurate navigation.

Subedar Parbhat Gaur 10 Para (SPECIAL FORCES)

Born in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, Subedar Parbhat Gaur was a true veteran of the Indian Army. Enlisting in 1998, he volunteered for the elite Parachute Regiment, earning his place in the prestigious 10 Para (Special Forces). Over a distinguished career spanning 27 years, he evolved into a battle-hardened leader, renowned for his expertise in mountain warfare and counter-terrorism.

Operation Guddar 08 September 2025

On 08 September 2025, intelligence pinpointed a group of terrorists fortified deep within the Kulgam forests. A joint operation was launched with 9 Rashtriya Rifles. Subedar Gaur, utilizing his decades of combat experience, spearheaded the assault team of 10 Para commandos.

As the team closed the cordon, they were met with intense automatic fire. Leading from the front, Subedar Gaur rallied his men, neutralizing two terrorists in the initial exchange. Despite sustaining grievous gunshot wounds during the close-quarter combat, the 48-year-old JCO refused to back down. He continued to engage the enemy, providing critical covering fire for his team until he collapsed.

Fighting alongside Lance Naik Narender Singh Sindhu, Subedar Parbhat Gaur made the supreme sacrifice, leaving behind a legacy of unmatched leadership and valour.

Some decisions don’t just change careers… they define character.
Garima Yadav, a girl from Haryana, was known for her grace, confidence, and beauty. What started off as a casual entry in a small beauty pageant quickly turned into a streak of victories. She won every contest she participated in — and with each win, the doors of the modeling world opened wider.
Soon, she earned a place in an international beauty pageant in Italy.

But life had something else planned.
On the exact same date, she was supposed to appear for the CDS training at the Indian Army’s Officer Training Academy, Chennai.
Garima had cleared the Combined Defence Services exam in her very first attempt — a dream she had carried since childhood.

Now she stood at a crossroads.
On one side: Italy, modeling, fame, glamour, perhaps even Bollywood.
On the other: a uniform, a badge, and a lifetime of service to the nation.

Her parents didn’t pressure her. They simply said:
“Whatever you choose, we are with you.”
And that made the decision even harder.

Garima spent the entire night thinking — not about the stage lights of Italy, but about the olive green uniform she had loved since she was a child.

By morning, her heart had chosen.
She walked to her mother and said the words that would shape her life:
“I’m going to Chennai.”

Italy could wait.
Fame could wait.
The country could not.

Today, Garima Yadav proudly serves the nation as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army, wearing the uniform she once dreamed of, proving that true beauty lies in courage, discipline, and sacrifice.

We are proud of you, Garima.
Salute to this patriotic daughter of India. Jai Hind 🇮🇳

Today, I bow my head in deepest respect to the bravehearts of the 13 Kumaon (Charlie Company) who fought with unmatched courage at Rezang La during the 1962 Indo-China war.

Outnumbered, cut off, and facing impossible odds, these warriors stood their ground at 18,000 feet and wrote one of the greatest chapters of valour in military history.
Their sacrifice is not just remembered — it inspires every Indian even today.

Remembering Major Shaitan Singh, PVC (Posthumous), and all the soldiers who gave their today for our tomorrow.
Their bravery echoes in every heartbeat of our nation. 🇮🇳

Jai Hind! 🙏
