World Oceans Day – June 8

World Oceans Day is observed every year on 8 June to celebrate the importance of oceans and promote their conservation for future generations.

If you dream of becoming an IAS, IPS, or IFS officer, contact us at 07994058393 (WhatsApp or Call).

The day highlights the vital role oceans play in sustaining life on Earth and encourages global action to protect marine ecosystems.

The ocean covers more than 70% of Earth's surface and is essential for maintaining environmental balance.

Oceans are critical because they:

Produce over half of the world's oxygen
Regulate global climate and weather patterns
Absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide
Support rich biodiversity and marine ecosystems
Provide food and livelihoods for billions of people

Despite their importance, oceans face growing threats from:

Plastic pollution
Overfishing
Climate change
Ocean acidification
Habitat destruction

The theme for World Oceans Day 2026 is:

"Reimagine. Beyond The World We Know, A New Relationship With Our Ocean."

The theme encourages humanity to move beyond simply using ocean resources and become active protectors of marine ecosystems.

Activities on this day often include beach cleanups, marine conservation campaigns, awareness programs, educational events, and sustainable lifestyle initiatives.

World Oceans Day reminds us that protecting the oceans is essential for protecting life on Earth.

Benefits:
Reduces the hydrocarbon emissions, making the atmosphere cleaner(GHG emissions in case of use of sugarcane and maize-based ethanol are less by 65% and 50%, respectively, than those of petrol)
Saves precious foreign exchange by reducing import demand.
Ensures an alternate source of income for farmers.
Challenge:
It can lead to a food security crisis due to food crop diversion and water usage for sugarcane cultivation.

AIR 262 Kirtan Bhatt on GS Test Series | First Attempt Success in UPSC CSE 2025

Can a test series genuinely improve your UPSC Mains performance?

If you dream of becoming an IAS, IPS, or IFS officer, contact us at 07994058393 (WhatsApp or Call).

Kirtan Bhatt (AIR 262, UPSC CSE 2025) believes it can, provided it helps you identify and fix your weaknesses. A first-attempt achiever, Kirtan was part of the Enlite IAS GS Test Series during his preparation.

According to him, one factor stood out.

The questions were not generic. They were personally framed by the faculty, focusing on the kind of analytical and application-based thinking that UPSC increasingly demands.

What helped him the most?

Questions closely aligned with actual UPSC trends
Detailed one-to-one feedback after every test
Identification of answer-writing weaknesses
Tailor-made suggestions instead of generic evaluation
Continuous improvement through structured discussions

Kirtan mentions that during the actual Mains examination, he could see clear similarities in the nature of questions and answer demands, which helped him write with greater confidence.

The guidance provided by Mahesh Sir, Abu Sir, Joseph Sir, Shinu Sir, and Bhagyashree Ma'am helped him refine his answers gradually and build a stronger approach to General Studies.

His experience reinforces an important lesson: A test series is not valuable because of the number of tests. It is valuable because of the feedback you receive and the improvements you make.
