We are delighted to share that Mr. Vishnu Kumar Mishra, PhD Scholar at IIT (BHU), Varanasi has been awarded with the Dr. C.J. Reddy Best Paper Award for Male Young Professionals at WAMS 2026, sponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.
The research was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Somak Bhattacharyya and Prof. M. Thottappan. The award was presented by Prof. Christophe Fumeaux, Past President, and Dr. Sudhakar Rao, at a ceremony graced by Dr. Rajeev Jyoti, Director, IN-SPACe, as the Chief Guest.
This recognition stands as a testament to the quality and impact of research being pursued at IIT (BHU), Varanasi. We extend our best wishes to Mr. Vishnu and his supervisors on this outstanding achievement.

We are pleased to present the May ’26 edition of the official Alumni Newsletter, Alma Communiqué, prepared by the Office of the Dean (Resource & Alumni) and the Student Alumni Interaction Cell (SAIC), IIT (BHU), Varanasi.
The May edition highlights significant achievements and developments across the Institute, including global recognition of IIT (BHU) faculty in the Research.com World’s Best Scientists Rankings 2026, the celebration of the International Day of Light 2026, a high-level visit by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and the signing of an MoU with the Bitumen Forum to strengthen transportation research. The edition also features a National Workshop on Current Problems and Constraints in the Mining Industries, alongside notable progress in placements, internships, research projects, and patent filings.
The newsletter further showcases vibrant student initiatives in technical learning, wellness, academics, and career development, while highlighting the prestigious INSA Young Associate 2026 recognition awarded to Dr. Aditya Kumar Padhi. Alumni achievements are featured through the success story of Stimuler, an AI-powered language learning startup founded by IIT (BHU) alumni, reflecting the Institute’s growing impact on innovation, entrepreneurship, and global technology-driven solutions.

An alumnus of IIT (BHU), graduating with B.Tech. in Electronics Engineering (1980), Dr. Yavatkar has continued to inspire through his leadership in the global technology ecosystem as CTO at Juniper Networks, based in Mountain View, California.
The Bhumi Pujan ceremony marks the beginning of a transformative space that will empower generations of students through advanced computing infrastructure, collaborative learning environments, student engagement spaces, and a future-ready campus ecosystem.

A New Landmark in the Making .
Today, IIT (BHU), Varanasi took a monumental step towards the future with the Bhumi Pujan Ceremony of the upcoming Malviya Student Activity and Computing Centre (MSACC) & Yavatkar Convention Centre (YCC) at the Rajputana Ground.
We gratefully acknowledge Dr. Raj Yavatkar, IIT(BHU), Varanasi alumnus (ECE 80) for his generous contribution towards the establishment of the Yavatkar Convention Centre (YCC).
Sanctioned at a cost of ₹105.84 crore, this state-of-the-art facility is envisioned as a vibrant, multi-functional hub for student activities, advanced computing, and collaborative learning. Slated for completion by December 2027, the MSACC & YCC will feature a 562-seat auditorium, dedicated computing halls, a 204-seat Senate Hall, and dynamic activity zones.
The auspicious ceremony was led by our Hon’ble Director, Prof. Amit Patra, in the presence of faculty, staff, and the institute community. This visionary project will create an enhanced, future-ready ecosystem for innovation, interaction, and co-curricular engagement across the campus.

IIT (BHU), Varanasi has achieved a landmark milestone in the QS World University Rankings 2027, climbing 56 positions to secure a global rank of 510, up from 566 in the previous edition. At the national level, the institute has advanced from 14th to 12th among Indian institutions, further consolidating its position within India's higher education landscape.
The institute recorded significant progress across key ranking indicators Sustainability (48.3 to 58.4), Employer Reputation (19.4 to 28.7), Academic Reputation (10.3 to 15.2), and International Research Network (30.5 to 30.9) with the overall score rising from 29.3 to 32.1. This marks a remarkable upward journey from the 651–700 band in QS 2023 to rank 510 in QS 2027.

Historic achievement at IIT (BHU) Varanasi!
From classroom concepts to silicon.
In a remarkable achievement, a team primarily comprising second-year B.Tech students from the Department of Electronics Engineering has successfully completed IIT (BHU)'s first-ever Silicon Chip. The team designed a 64-point FFT Hardware Accelerator chip using the SKY130 process design kit and submitted it for fabrication through the Tiny Tapeout Multi-Project Wafer Shuttle Program.
The project was carried out by Arka Kar, Mithil Damania, Neeraj Hariyani, Kanagiri Srithan, Aditya Mehra, Anuj Pandey, Maulik Bose, and Seturatnam K. S., with mentorship from senior students Punit Makwana and Chaitanya Gambali.
Guided by faculty mentors Dr. Ankit Arora and Dr. Muralikrishnan Srinivasan, and supported by, Head of the Department, Prof. Amritanshu Pandey, this achievement marks the first major outcome of the AURA (Advanced Undergraduate Research Avenue) Lab. FFT accelerators are foundational to technologies powering wireless communication, AI, GPS, radar, medical imaging, and multimedia systems.
Prof. Amit Patra, Director, IIT (BHU), noted that this achievement reflects the institute's growing emphasis on experiential learning and undergraduate research. He highlighted that initiatives like AURA Lab are empowering students not just to learn technology, but to create it.

IIT (BHU) Varanasi organised its Online Open House Session for JEE (Advanced) 2026 qualified candidates and parents on 10 June 2026, conducted from the Conference Hall, CFDET Building.
The session opened with a welcome address by Prof. Satyabrata Jit, Chairman, JEE (Advanced) 2026, IIT (BHU). In his opening remarks, Prof. Amit Patra, Director, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, highlighted the Institute's commitment to academic excellence, innovation, research, and holistic student development.
The programme featured presentations by Prof. Devender Singh (Dean of Academic Affairs) on academic programmes and curriculum, Prof. Sushant Kumar Srivastava (Coordinator, TPC) on placements and industry engagement, Prof. Manoj Kumar Meshram on entrepreneurship and startup culture, Prof. Hiralal Pramanik (Dean of Resource & Alumni Affairs) on the alumni network, Prof. Rakesh Singh (Chairman, Council of Wardens) on hostel life and campus infrastructure, and Prof. Rajesh Kumar (Dean of Students' Affairs) on co-curricular life through Gymkhana and SAC.
The session concluded with an open Q&A where candidates and parents engaged directly with the institute leadership. We look forward to welcoming the class of 2026 to IIT (BHU) Varanasi.
