Here is another one of those sentences that seems so obvious...

Grammatically, it translates perfectly. It checks out. It looks safe.

But to a native ear... it just sounds a bit weird! 😅 In English, “passion” is an incredibly heavy, dramatic word—we save it for deep life missions, not our casual hobbies! 🌋

This is just one example of the many subtle ways language goes beyond simple word-for-word translation. Just because two words share the same Latin roots doesn’t mean they’re used the exact same way across cultures. Quello che in italiano suona normale, in inglese rischia di sembrare una telenovela drammatica! 🎭

🇺🇸 In inglese diciamo semplicemente “to dress in layers” (vestirsi a strati). Devo ammetterlo... l’italiano qui è decisamente più divertente e fantasioso!

😮 Two tricky synonyms. You might not even have heard of these words before, but both of them basically mean the same thing: to look at something quickly. Glimpse and Glance. 👀

Magari stai pensando: “Ma Seth, non ho mai sentito queste parole. Le uso così poco, chi se ne importa di saperle?” 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ok, hai ragione... ma cosa succede se le senti dire da qualcun altro? Well, now will understand them! 🤩

✨ Ecco dunque tutta la magica grammatica di questi verbi:

Glimpse and glance mean the same thing (to look at something quickly), but:

👉 Glancing is something that we actively do.
👉 Glimpsing is when we just sort of turn our head and we happen to see something.

And the most important part: ✅ We always TAKE a glance.
✅ We always CATCH a glimpse.

Non scambiate queste parole, perché se le invertite suona davvero strano! ❌

P.S. In Italiano queste parole sarebbero simili a “dare un’occhiata” (glance) e “intravedere” (glimpse). Semplice, no? 😉
