Are you interested in contributing to empirical research on intimate relationships among Jamaicans? Dr. Ishtar Govia, from the University of the West Indies, and her research team, would like to recruit Jamaican men and women to participate in a quantitative research study on Social Contexts, Attitudes, & Relationships among Jamaicans. The research has been approved by the Ethics Committees of the University of the West Indies, Mona, and the University of Technology. The study is intended to provide insight into the ways in which the physical and social setting in which people live influence norms and individuals’ expectations for and experiences in close opposite and same-sex relationships.
We would like to ascertain information from persons engaged in same-sex relationships about their familial, interpersonal and community-based experiences. If you are interested we hope you will consider talking to us and/or spreading the word to people who you think may be interested in participating. As a participant, you will be asked to complete a 45 minute interview about your family and the community in which you live, your educational and occupational experience, health habits, interpersonal experiences, and attitudes towards and experiences in intimate relationships. Your name will always be kept confidential, will only be known by the research management team, and will not be attached to your questionnaire or the data collected from it. You will also be free to withdraw from participating at any time, even after you have agreed to participate.
If you are between 18 and 65 years of age, are currently in at least one romantic and/or sexual relationship with a same-sex partner for 3 months or longer, and would be interested in participating in this study, please contact one of the research team members at:
[email protected]
Our project manager will contact you to set up an appointment with one of our trained interviewers. Remember, your name will be kept confidential and will not be attached to the responses you provide.
