βοΈ *What is KUCCPS and What Does It Do?*
β
KUCCPS (Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service) is the government body that:
Places KCSE candidates into universities, colleges, KMTC and TVET institutions.
Ensures government sponsorship for those placed in public institutions.
Provides course selection, revision, and inter-university transfer services.
Gives access to cluster points, course requirements, institution capacities and more.
βοΈ *_COMMON ASKED KUCCPS RELATED QUESTIONS_*
1. *Do you understand what KUCCPS does and how it helps you?*
Yes. KUCCPS helps you choose suitable courses, applies your placement and ensures you get government sponsorship if placed in a public institution.
2. *Difference between government-sponsored, self-sponsored and parallel ?*
Government-sponsored:
You apply through KUCCPS and get placed in a public university/college β You qualify for government funding/scholarship + HELB(tuition fee plus upkeep)
Self-sponsored :
Applying via KUCCPS in a private institution. Eligible for HELB without upkeep.
Parralel:
You apply directly to an institution β No government sponsorship
β
Given tution fee but no upkeep.
3. *How do you check your cluster points?*
KUCCPS
β Your cluster points and the required points will appear automatically.
4. *Which course should you apply for?*
Choose based on:
Your KCSE grade
Your cluster points
Your interests and career goals
The capacity and competitiveness of the course
5. *How do you confirm if an institution is public or private?*
Inside the KUCCPS, every course shows the institution type:
Public β qualifies for government sponsorship and HELB
Private β you pay full fees with no government scholarship but there is HELB without upkeep.
6. *Minimum requirements for programmes?*
Degree β C+ and above
Diploma β C minus and above
Certificate (Craft) β D plain and above
Artisan β D minus, E, or no KCSE
7. *How do you know if a course is competitive?*
Check:
Cut-off points from previous years
Number of applicants vs available capacity
Highly demanded courses (medicine, engineering, law, ICT) are more competitive.
8. *How do you check course capacity?*
On the KUCCPS under each course, capacity is listed as:
βAvailable spaces (e.g., 120 slots)β
Choose wisely based on demand.
9. *Why fill choices in priority order?*
KUCCPS places you starting from your first choice downwards, so the top choices should be your most preferred and suitable ones.
10. *When to apply, revise, or transfer?*
First Application: MARCH
1st Revision: After the main application is closed
2nd Revision: For those unplaced after 1st revision
Inter-University Transfer: After placement results are released
NB: As we go down from first application to inter-faculty some courses won't be available eg medice, nursing due to demand.
βοΈ βοΈ Seek guidance
11. *How does inter-university transfer work?*
You apply through your KUCCPS, choose a new course and institution, and wait for approval from both universities.
12. *Does placement in a private university give government scholarship?*
β No.
Government funds only public universities and TVET institutions.
Private institutions are self-sponsored.
13. *How do you confirm your placement?*
Once KUCCPS finishes processing, log in or you'll receive an sms from Kuccps β A message will appear showing the institution and course you have been placed in.
14. *What funding options are available?*
HELB Loan β for all students (KMTC, UNIVERSITIES, TVETs)
University Funding (UFB) β for government-sponsored students in public universities and TVETs
TVET Bursary β for students in TVET colleges
15. *What happens if you fail to apply before the deadline?*
You risk being:
Placed in any course with space
Placed in places you didnβt choose
Missing government sponsorship
