The Nairobi Shinners Education Center is non-profitable Educational Organization that promote eradication of illiteracy, ICT Technology, understanding and peace through voluntary service. The organization was founded in the year 2009 operating on an interim letter from the Ministry of Education and Gender. Later it fully registered on 10th June 2013 as non-formal school organization under Ministry of Education as CBO’s situated in Kiambu County, Ruiru Sub-County, Githurai Sub-location in the Republic of Kenya – Nairobi with a population of six hundred and fifty pupils. Currently is made up of full, associate and volunteers all over the world. Each member of organization runs an agreed programme of International volunteer projects in their own country and exchange volunteers with each other to create an international group of volunteer workers on each project. VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
Our organization invents new projects for school with partnership with ideal communities. We engage our volunteers in wide diversity of community development tasks including environmental renovation, social, cultural and empowerment of both youth and woman teaching rural local African school. Therefore, our volunteer will be seen as not tourist but as part of the community. Not only will be experiencing different culture in close and personal way but they will be working with amazing children and community members. Our volunteer with interest of supporting our child labour project, they will be able to help to identify the vulnerable children for child sponsorship program and how we can pull them out of child labour and bring them into education and thus, involving entire family and wider community by educating them about merits of illiteracy and benefits of education. TEACHING
If a volunteer is interested in volunteering in education sector you comfortably in any class guided by class teacher.
“Here volunteer Evanne from England and Samantha Beatie from New Zealand teaching language and creative in all classes.”
You will be able to teach any class and any subject, so it would be good if you could indicate your preferences when applying so that you can be allocated to something that interest you most. To become a volunteer teacher, you do not need to be a professional teacher and will have no problem teaching if you have just finished secondary school and also a degree holder. The children are all excited and curious to want to find out more about volunteer and their country. By providing them with an overview of the life at home, you are expanding their world awareness. In addition, volunteer reaffirm the value of education and motivate students to concentrate on it. Volunteers also share their teaching ideas with teachers and show them how school is run elsewhere. One of the good things about volunteering in Kenya is that virtually, everyone can speak English and thus there is communication barrier and language should not have an effect on your placement. All of the volunteers will through their projects get to know the culture of Kenya and will also be able to travel through other parts of the country on weekends. As you are based in the same town as the organization, you will always have a contact person and any problem can be solved immediately. There is a lot of work to be done and all volunteers are only placed into project where the help is really needed and will for that reason never have a lack of things to do. There are two possible living arrangements; you can live in a volunteer house or with a family. Please indicate your preferences on application form. Thanks in advance
