Divine Mercy finds its fullest expression in the seven sacraments.
Tomorrow is the Second Sunday of Easter also Divine Mercy Sunday.
The Church closes the Easter Octave, still immersed in the joy of the Resurrection that transforms not just a day, but all of time. Once called Dominica in albis, this day marked when the newly baptized removed their white garments, stepping fully into new life.
In John 20:19–31, today’s Gospel reading, we find the Apostles afraid, burdened by doubt and failure. Into that fear, Jesus enters not with condemnation, but with peace a deep, reconciling peace rooted in forgiveness. He breathes on them, gives the Holy Spirit, and entrusts them with the power to *forgive sins*. **This is the heart of Divine Mercy:* not abstract, but personal and sacramental.
God’s mercy meets us concretely in Baptism, where we are made new, and in Confession, where our wounds are healed again and again. Mercy restores what sin distorts.
Jesus told St. Faustina that on this day, “the very depths of My tender mercy are open.” An ocean of grace is offered no matter how great our sins.
Like Thomas, we may struggle to believe but even a spark of faith is enough for God to ignite. The invitation remains: step through the door of mercy.
“Jesus, I trust in You.”
