Handover Ceremonies
On 14 May 2026, the University of Nairobi Council announced changes to the University's top leadership, appointing the 9th Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayub Gitau, and Prof. Josiah Aduda as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development).
The changes also affected other Deputy Vice-Chancellor portfolios, leading to a series of handover ceremonies across the University.
On 15 May, Prof. Jackson Maalu officially handed over the Finance, Planning and Development docket to Prof. Josiah Aduda. On 18 May, Prof. Ayub Gitau handed over the DVC Academic Affairs docket to Prof. John Mande. Subsequently, on 3 June 2026, Prof. John Mande, who transitioned from the Human Resource and Administration portfolio to Academic Affairs, handed over the Human Resource and Administration office to Prof. Leonida Kerubo.
Prof. Leonida Kerubo assumes office as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Human Resource and Administration), having previously served as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Enterprise). Meanwhile, Prof. Margaret Hutchinson resumes her role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Enterprise) after serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor.
The final handover ceremony took place on 3 June 2026, when Prof. John Mande officially handed over the Human Resource and Administration docket to Prof. Leonida Kerubo.
Directors and Heads of Departments attended each of the handover ceremonies, demonstrating the University's commitment to a smooth leadership transition and continuity of service.

For three days, 2-4 June, 2026 the University of Nairobi through the School of Journalism & Mass Communication - University of Nairobi , has brought together the final year film students, to showcase short films that they produced as part of their final year projects.
The VUKA FILM Festival is a platform that brings together the Creative industry, government and government agencies and the academia for a discourse on the landscape of the industry in Kenya and the continent. The platform, from its name, Vuka, is a symbol of crossing over for the final year students that are transitioning to the industry.
This year, on the 3rd day (4th June), will be the awards ceremony and the launch of an incubation hub- Africa Media Innovation Lab (AMILab) that will host winners of the various categories for two weeks to go through a rigorous mentorship and innovation incubation.
We would like to appreciate all the partners, the keynote speakers, the jurors from the industry and our Faculty that have made this event possible.

The University of Nairobi is now ranked in the TOP 7% of universities on the planet by the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR), placing 1,371st in research and 1,596th in graduate employability worldwide.
Reflecting on the recognition, The Vice Chancellor Prof. Eng. Ayub Gitau said the ranking highlights the University's enduring contribution to society while pointing to even greater possibilities ahead.

The Vice-Chancellor-UoN Prof. Ayub Gitau had a fruitful and Strategic engagement with the Staff members of Directorate of Corporate Affairs led by the Director, Mr. John Orindi.
The Discussions centred on the areas of strategic improvements for optimum productivity and to align the objectives of the University's management with the Communication objectives.
In his remarks, Prof. Gitau, pledged the University's management support towards the issues raised by the team that affects their productivity. He also emphasized the critical role that the Corporate Affairs plays amongst the University's stakeholders and urged the team to continue increasing the quality and standards of communication management.

Carnegie Mellon University Africa announced today that the African Engineering and Technology Network (Afretec) has signed its tenth university partner, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University(AASTU). The network, launched in 2022, provides a vehicle for technology-focused universities in Africa to engage in deep collaboration to drive digital growth, create technology development, build pathways to opportunities for youth, and shape policy change.
Afretec Network members span the entire continent and represent North, South, East, West, and Central Africa. University partners include: Carnegie Mellon University Africa (Rwanda), Agostinho Neto University (Angola), Al Akhawayn University (Morocco), the American University in Cairo (Egypt), UniversitΓ© Cheikh Anta Diop (Senegal), University of Lagos (Nigeria), University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Rwanda, University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), and now Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (Ethiopia).
