University of Nairobi Alumni Association

On Friday, the University of Nairobi Alumni Association Executive Committee met with the Vice-Chancellor-UoN Prof. Ayub N. Gitau — a meeting that marks an important milestone in the relationship between our Association and our alma mater.

We came to the table with a shared vision: to build a stronger, more structured partnership that serves the University of Nairobi, its students, and the wider alumni community.

Happy Madaraka Day to all Kenyans — and a special salute to our UoN alumni family!

On this day we commemorate Kenya's journey to self-governance, we also celebrate the many alumni who have dedicated their lives to building this nation — in government, business, academia, and community service.

🎉 From Silver Life Member to Vice-Chancellor!

The University of Nairobi Alumni Association is overflowing with pride to announce that Prof. Ayub Gitau – a Silver Life Member of UoNAA – has been appointed the 9th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi.

Yes, you read that right. One of our own.

Prof. Gitau has been a committed member of the alumni association for years. Now, he steps into the University's highest leadership role, following the appointment made during a special sitting of the University Council on May 14, 2026.

A distinguished alumnus and scholar:

PhD (2005) and MSc (1996) in Agricultural Engineering – both from UoN

BSc (Upper Second Class) from Egerton University (1990)

Registered Consulting Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya

Professor since March 2023

Former Dean, Faculty of Engineering (2019–2024)

Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) from August 2024

Prof. Gitau is only the second professor from the Faculty of Engineering to serve as UoN Vice-Chancellor, after the legendary Prof. Francis Gichaga.
