From May 18 to 21, 2026, the MoEYS STEP UP CPD Project ran its first 'Lab Protocol and STEM CPD Coaching & Mentoring Workshop' for 63 Mathematics, Science, and ICT teachers across Kep and Pailin provinces.
This workshop was the first time we introduced a direct coaching and mentoring model to the CPD program to ensure quality control on the ground. Core Trainers mentored the STEM Ambassadors under the EMCAST CPD Manager, who then provided direct coaching to the participating teachers at Hun Sen Chamkar Doung High School (Kep) and Hun Sen Krung Tepnimit High School (Pailin).
Here is a quick look at what the two tracks covered:
🧪 Science and Lab Protocol Track: Focused on experiment planning, preparation, and digital content creation to perform competency-based, student-centered learning and use of ICT tools such as CapCut and H5P.
📐 Mathematics and ICT Track: Focused on curriculum design driven by teachers with teacher curriculum literacy and interactive video production for flipped learning, including Teacher's Curriculum Redesign and Concept Videos for Concept Understanding.
More importantly, working closely with the teachers gave us clear insights into what is actually needed to make student-centered teaching sustainable long-term. Moving away from traditional, lecture-based habits is a process, and teachers still face immediate difficulties defining lesson objectives, choosing teaching methods, and writing critical-thinking questions for competency-based lesson plans.
To make this shift stick, ongoing school-level academic support is vital to help teachers master concept-based teaching, design detailed curricula, deepen content knowledge, and draft real-life math application scripts. At the same time, MoEYS and school administrators need to structurally mandate and encourage internal Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). This formal framework for peer-to-peer sharing is essential to prevent knowledge isolation and help these pedagogical skills naturally spread across the faculty.
👉 We’ve posted a full breakdown of the workshop outcomes and field insights on our blog. You can read the details via the link.

Wrapping up a passionate 4-day journey! Visiting the field of Cambodia's National Education Policy (SBM) ✨
The long-awaited STEP UP On-Site Coaching & Mentoring, which kicked off on May 18th, has finally come to a successful close today, May 21st! It has been an incredible 4 days connecting with 92 passionate educators, 62 in Pailin and 30 in Kep, filling the future of Cambodian science education with bright energy.
Aligned with the core reform policies of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), 'School-Based Management (SBM)' and the 'National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) System', it served as a deeply meaningful opportunity to see how a field-centered 'School-Based Coaching & Mentoring' framework can be truly implemented and expanded right inside the classrooms! 🏫🚀
🔍 Why Pailin, Kep, and 'Science Labs'?
The regions we visited, especially locations like Kep, face unique challenges where establishing STEM education can be difficult due to vulnerable educational environments. That is why our team headed out with one clear mission: "Let’s identify what roadblocks or challenges arise when operating in real classrooms, and provide immediate, on-site support!"
The ultimate core of our 'curriculum literacy-based STEM training' is rooted in the 'Science Lab'. It's all about teachers deeply understanding national curriculum standards and translating that knowledge into reality for their students through specific, hands-on 'science lab' activities!

"Can I do science, too?"
What is the most effective way to answer this question from young girls
? The answer doesn't just come from a textbook. It comes from a role model. 👩🏫✨
Beyond simple rote memorization, we need classrooms where students discover the joy of solving problems on their own. When a female teacher leads a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) class with confidence, she sends a silent but powerful message to every girl in the room: "I did it, and so can you."
When one teacher grows, the entire classroom transforms. And when the classroom changes, the future of these children changes forever.
Therefore, we will host the STEP UP CPD for female teachers this time. 🧪💻
The 7th STEM Capacity Building Seminar
This seminar brings together 107 incredible female STEM teachers from 24 high schools across 4 provinces to lead the wave of change.

📚Teacher Story | Learning, Sharing, Growing - 2nd Story
Hello followers! We are back with the second story, 👨🏫Dr. Seng Monyrattanak, a dedicated expert in STEM education, shares his profound insights and the positive shifts he has observed through the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program.
💬Reflecting on the journey, he shared: “The core components of our training from Curriculum Literacy and Backward Design to digital tools like H5P and Google Classroom are essential pillars every teacher should master. I am thrilled to see our training process evolve and even happier to continue sharing this vital knowledge with our teaching community.”
As a facilitator and observer, Dr. Monyrattanak has witnessed a significant transformation in how STEM teachers approach their craft. His guidance is helping educators bridge the gap between theory and classroom reality.
✨His Key Changes & Impact:
- Empowering Curriculum Ownership: Teachers are now gaining the confidence to adapt and design their own detailed curricula tailored to their school’s specific context, moving beyond rigid adherence to old templates.
- Outcome-Focused Planning: A shift toward Backward Design, where educators prioritize clear learning outcomes and integrate formative assessments more naturally into their lessons.
- Digital Integration: High engagement with tools like H5P and Google Classroom to create interactive and supportive learning environments.
- Evolving Training Quality: Increased synergy among core trainers and improved program coordination based on continuous feedback.
🌱While celebrating these milestones, Dr. Monyrattanak also identifies areas for future growth, such as deepening the understanding of Action Research and Teacher Career Pathways to ensure long-term professional excellence.

STEP UP Project Season 5 – Stage 2 Monitoring Meeting 🚀
On 25th February, EMCAST and NIE (National Institute of Education) convened a strategic monitoring meeting with 9 CPD Core Trainers to check on tracking the progress of 125 participating teachers. Those 125 teachers are now actively engaged in online learning and classroom assignments (Stage 2), following their Stage 1 offline seminar.
During the meeting, we ensured that Core Trainers have a clear and unified understanding of the Assessment Rubrics to evaluate teacher performance objectively. Additionally, by identifying real-world challenges faced by trainers, we provided immediate feedback to optimize the learning journey.
At EMCAST, we don’t just deliver content; we apply a methodology that enhances the expertise of local operators. By strengthening the roles of our Core Trainers, we ensure that high-quality STEM education remains sustainable in the local field.
Stay tuned as our teachers continue their journey of professional growth!

📚 Teacher Story | Learning, Sharing, Growing - 1st Story
👨🏫 Mr. Prum Sovathy, a senior chemistry teacher from Svay Rieng High School, recently reflected on his experience after participating in a 5-day Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshop for STEM education.
💬 Reflecting on the experience, he shared:
“I gained a lot of new knowledge to further develop my professional skills. I am happy to apply this knowledge in my classroom and share it with other teachers in my school. I hope there will be more CPD workshops for STEM education.”
After the training, he returned to his classroom with new ideas and a renewed vision for teaching. Through the workshop, he strengthened his skills in curriculum design, backward planning, and student-centered pedagogy, while exploring digital tools and innovative approaches to support learning.
✨ What he learned and applied:
- Designing detailed curriculum with clear learning outcomes and assessments
- Applying Backward Design to improve lesson planning
- Creating interdisciplinary and connected classrooms
- Using digital platforms such as Google Classroom, Forms, Sheets, Docs, and Slides
- Exploring AI tools including ChatGPT and Gemini
- Supporting diverse learners through Interactive Video (H5P) and PhET simulations
🌱 His journey shows how continuous learning empowers teachers to transform knowledge into real classroom practice and create meaningful learning experiences for students.
