Learn how a Fulbright experience can extend beyond the lab to inspire students in Korea and create meaningful impact through STEM education and cross-cultural exchange.

Recognizing the importance of educating and empowering women for the prosperity of both countries, 2025–2026 Fulbright STEM Initiative grantee Julia Going founded a club to support and inspire future women leaders in STEM across Korea and the United States.

Alongside her research in materials science and engineering at host institution Yonsei University, Julia launched two initiatives for students at Yale Girls’ High School in Seoul. Through monthly pen pal exchanges with Cedarburg High School in Wisconsin, students explored cultural perspectives and shared their STEM aspirations. She also designed and led hands-on STEM lessons and experiments to encourage students to explore future academic and career pathways.

This post features recent lessons in structural engineering and medical data science, highlighting how STEM learning can foster curiosity, connection, and impact.

On May 16, PY2025 English Teaching Assistant (ETA) grantee Charlotte Sims volunteered with the Gwangju City Youth Leadership Program.

Here is what she had to say about her experience: "I had the privilege to meet a group of passionate, young students at the Gwangju International Center as a speaker during their Gwangju Global Leader Training Program. It was such a great experience to share and discuss American culture with these students as they prepare for their future in potential international opportunities! What a great way to spend my Saturday, and I hope for more chances like this!"

Charlotte is placed in Damyang, Jeollanam-do. We're so glad she was able to support the community and share about American culture!

Last month, our English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program had its Spring Conference in the historic city of Gyeongju! 👑

ETAs across the country gathered to participate in 3 days of teaching presentations, workshops, and group discussions to reflect on their time thus far in Korea and exchange helpful teaching feedback with their peers. 👨‍🏫

ETAs also participated in a cultural tour of locations like Bulguksa Temple, Oreung tombs, and downtown Gyeongju! 🥞

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again at Fall Conference! 🥰
