Hello guys and girls!

Today we are looking at the phrase 'Carbon Copy'

Carbon copy means when something is exactly the same, or at least something very very similar!

Examples.
It was obvious the students copied each other as their essays were carbon copies of each other.

It is clear he is related to him. They are carbon copies of one another.

Try to use carbon copy in a sentence in the comments below!

Hello guys and girls!

Today we are going to look at the number '0'

It is an strange number as in English it can be pronounced different ways depending on the context.

When we are talking about numbers in general we would use zero or nought - 0.6 - nought/zero point six

When we are talking about phone numbers (or long numbers) we use 'oh' - 079502 - oh seven nine five oh two

If we are talking about football scores we use nil - 0-0 - nil, nil

When talking about tennis scores we use the word love for 0 - 15-0 the score is fifteen love

Hello guys and girls!

Today is a special class for Russians.

I often here Russians use the phrase 'country house' when they refer to a dacha.

Now, if you aren't Russian you may not know the word dacha. This is because it is a Russian word with no direct English translation.

In British English a country house is a big beautiful house with a vast number of rooms and a huge amount of land connected to it.

You could choose to say - 'A small house in the country' instead.

In most languages there are words that do not translate to English. With these words it is ok to say this word in your language.

Can you think of any words in your language that doesn't have a direct translation to English?

Hello guys and girls!

Today we are going to look at how to make you sound more natural.

Something I come across often in the classroom is people repeating the question or the key thing we are talking about.

Example.
'Did you have a nice weekend?'

'Yes, this weekend was nice'

No althought there is nothing wrong with the answer, it's not natural. A more natural way would be to reply:
'Yes, it was nice'

In the video we can see another example

'I saw a band last night'

'were the band good?' ❌
'Any good' ✔️

The speaker knows you are refering to the band so it's not needed to repeat 'the band'

Hope that helps and have a lovely day!

Hello guys and girls!

Today we are going to look at a common part of pronunciation many students have problems with.

When making a /v/ sound you need to make sure that your top teeth are on your bottom lip.

With the /w/ sound we move our lips as if we are about to give a kiss.

Try to make a video in your stories pronouncing the following words, and you can even try tge sentence!

Tag me in your video and I will give you some feedback!

V - We
Vet - Wet
Visor - Wiser
Vest - West
Vine - Wine

'It was very wet outside so we didn't go to the vet and decided to stay in and drink some wine'

Good luck!

Hello guys and girls!

I hope you are all well.

Today we will look at the phrase to make do.

Make do is used to talk about something that you wanted but can't have.

Example.

I wanted to buy some chicken for my meal tonight. But, I had to make do with turkey as the shop had sold out of chicken.
