As Sri Lanka’s largest plastic recycler, Eco Spindles ( Subsidiary of BPPL Group ) commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with a meaningful initiative focused on recycling, reforestation, and environmental education.

The programme included tree planting across our factory premises and industrial zone, along with the Green Care Pledge (හරිත ප්‍රතිඥාව), encouraging employees to protect and nurture the saplings distributed.

Eco Spindles also visited Kalupahana Kanishta Vidyalaya to conduct an awareness session on plastic recycling, responsible waste management, and the importance of trees. Fruit-bearing plants were also donated to create a lasting green impact within the school community.

Plastic pollution is costing marine life and damaging ocean ecosystems across the world.

According to Condor Ferries, 100 million marine animals die each year from plastic waste, while 80% of ocean pollution comes from land-based sources. Plastics can also take 500–1000 years to degrade, making responsible recycling and coastal waste recovery more important than ever.

Through coastal clean-up initiatives and partnerships with local fishermen and collectors, Eco Spindles helps recover PET plastic waste from coastal areas before it continues to harm marine ecosystems.

Through Eco Spindles Oceanic Yarn, discarded PET plastic is transformed into sustainable yarn solutions for multiple product applications, helping reduce plastic waste, support cleaner oceans, and strengthen a more circular future.
