We are proud to share that after participating in the AI Boot Camp to Enhance Youth Voices for Stronger To***co Control Policy, organized by Global Youth Voices and the Global Center for Good Governance in To***co Control (GGTC), our youth advocate has been recognized for the Best Core Policy Advocacy Output under the Vision for Change: Global Youth Advocacy Showcase.

In the winning article, "Unmasking the To***co Industry's Digital Loopholes in Sri Lanka," Thanuri explores how to***co and ni****ne companies are adapting their marketing strategies to the digital age—using social media, influencers, entertainment content, and online communities to normalise to***co and ni****ne use among young people despite existing advertising restrictions.

The article highlights how the industry's tactics have evolved from traditional advertising to algorithm-driven promotion and argues that stronger enforcement, platform accountability, and cross-sector collaboration are needed to protect young people from online to***co marketing.

University Students Taking the Lead for a Healthier Future!

Today, we conducted a training session for the students in the Medical Faculty of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura.

During the session, we discussed the health, social, and mental impacts of alcohol, to***co, and other drugs and how multinational companies continue to promote alcohol and to***co, especially targeting young people.

We also explored the important role medical students can play in responding to these challenges and supporting their communities with knowledge and compassion.

The students participated actively, shared thoughtful ideas, and learned about industry interferences behind alcohol and to***co promotions.

Their motivation gives us hope for a healthier Sri Lanka!

Door-to-door visits and community discussions with women and alcohol users were held in Maruthankerny (Kilinochchi), Vembodukerny (Jaffna), and Nachikuda (Kilinochchi), with active participation from households and community members.

Through these conversations, participants were guided to reflect on the financial burden of alcohol use by calculating their own household expenditure. The sessions sparked meaningful dialogue around reducing alcohol consumption as a pathway to overcoming economic hardship, while deepening community awareness of its broader social impacts.
