Two courses are offered at undergraduate level and another two as Master programmes - one offered on a part-time basis and a second full-time dual International Masters programme in Community Psychiatric Nursing offered jointly with the University of Southern Indiana, USA. The department has a variety of Erasmus contracts with universities in the UK allowing for student mobility for three-month exchanges to and from these universities. It also has Erasmus teacher exchange programmes with universities in the UK and Belgium. The World Health Organisation estimates that one person in every four will experience mental health challenges during their lifetime with depression ranking as the second highest health problem worldwide. It is vital that we work to try to increase our knowledge and skills in dealing with mental health related illnesses as well as reducing the stigma associated with them. As the Department grows it intends to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in mental health specialities to all those working or interested in mental health care.
