NGOs, Beach Art Gallery School is a non-profit school located on the beach in Cape Maclear (Chembe). The School is for free and all children are welcome.
The Beach Art Gallery School is a primary school working with students from nursery school to high school age who would not otherwise have access to affordable education. At The Beach Art Gallery School, we believe every child has the right to a free education, regardless of their socio-economic background. Unfortunately, schooling in Malawi requires families to pay for instruction, uniforms, and
classroom materials. These costs prevent many of the poorest children from obtaining basic education. We believe that educating our children, especially our young girls and boys, is the key to the survival of our people. Education allows our young children to learn about maintaining healthy lifestyle choices and prepares them to be competitive in employment opportunities in our country. Children learn the basics of reading and writing in English and Chichewa languages and the fundamentals of art (drawing, painting) while in a unique learning environment -- the beach! Beyond the basics of classroom education, we strive to educate our children about their health. As HIV continues to be spread among men, women, and children, it's imperative that children understand the stigma of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and the prevention of such diseases. The Beach Art Gallery School is free for students and families and is ran by a group of local volunteers who came together to start the school after seeing many young children hanging around the beach with tourists instead of attending school. Many wished to attend school but their families could not afford the costs of the required uniforms, learning materials, and tuition. Solicitations are made to support the direct costs of providing educational services to the students. Donations of classroom teaching and learning materials, art supplies, and sporting equipment is acceptable and appreciated. Please contact us to learn more! We welcome you to join and share your voice in our open, inclusive community while we value honesty and different perspectives, we kindly ask that you refrain from posting offensive statements against a culture, race, religion, gender, community, or lifestyle.
