National Advocacy and Awareness Conference on Mountains
13th December, 2022 (Sunbird Capital Lilongwe)
Theme: “Mountains Matter, Ideas for Action”

Today we had an opportunity to participate in the above-captioned Conference organized by the Department of Land Resources Conservation. The Guest of Honor was Dr. Michael Usi – Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife.

Dr. Russel Chidya and Mr Patson Simkoko (our MSc Forestry and Environmental Management student), represented Mzuzu University (Mzuni), in particular Faculty of Environmental Sciences (FoES) (Dept.. of Forestry and Environmental Management & Dept.. of Water and Sanitation).

Mzuni renders its commitment and efforts to support the restoration of mountains and forests in Malawi.

Mzuzu University 2021-2030 Strategic Plan directly responds to the Malawi Vision 2063 and its first 10-year implementation plan (MIP-1 2021-2030) to promote environmental sustainability central in ensuring sustainable development, and the need to protect biodiversity and ecosystems.

Our research and development initiatives inform and support policy in Malawi and beyond.

In collaboration with Malawi Government and all implementing partners, Mzuni is geared toward supporting the “Restoration of Mountain Ecosystem Initiative”, the conservation of mountains, forests, and watersheds in Malawi.

During this conference, we also took the initiative to sell out our Postgraduate programmes under the FoES as follows:

• MSc/PhD in Forestry and Environmental Management;
• MSc/PhD in Water Resources Management;
• MSc/PhD in Sanitation
• MSc/PhD in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences;
• MSc/PhD in Transformative Community Development;
• MSc/PhD in Geo-informatics (GIS);
• MSc/PhD in Urban and Regional Planning;

We take collective action and subscribe to “Mountains Matter; Ideas for Action”
