The initiative of a SMART Centre came from CCAP (Mr Jim mc Gill) and the Dutch organisation (CI) Connect International (Mr Henk Holtslag). The SMART Centre Mzuzu in Malawi is based on a similar Centre which is run by the NGO Southern Highlands Participatory Organization (SHiPO) in Tanzania and is a training centre for low-cost water and sanitation solutions, supporting local private sector in water and sanitation businesses. The CCAP and CI requested funds from different organisations.
