VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: MATRON FOR TUKOMBO GIRLS PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOL
A vacancy for a matron exists at Tukombo Girls Secondary School in Nkhata Bay. The school is run by the Nkhata Bay Development Trust.
Key Purpose
Caring for the students in the hostels on a daily basis.
Ensuring that students’ food is well prepared and hygienic.
Ensuring the welfare and wellbeing of all of the students by balancing a friendly disposition with the need to maintain discipline.
Setting the very highest standards of care in the hostels and understanding the aims and objectives of hostel accommodation as well as the principles on which community life in the hostels is based.
Ensuring the safety and security of all boarders at all times when they are in the school’s charge.
Building a strong, personal relationship with each of the students in her care.
Assisting duty staff in the provision of excellent pastoral care for the students in the House.
Creating excellent relationships with parents and guardians and responding to their concerns.
Liaising with the school nurse regarding the health of students.
Experience
The Matron will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. Experience of care in an educational setting would be a distinct advantage.
Matron will have:
( a )A warm and empathetic personality, tactful manner and be a good listener
( b) Excellent communication skills
( c) Flexibility as there will be occasions when additional hours are required outside of the normal shift patterns
(d) A firm understanding of the need for confidentiality and discretion with regards to privileged information
Educational qualifications
A diploma or certificate in any of the following from a recognised training institution: Education and Home Economics or Agriculture; Community Development and / or Social Welfare; and Food and Nutrition or any other related qualification.
