Hydrogen Workshop Series 2: Realising Green Hydrogen Under HETR – Bridging Policy, Industry and Research for Early-Stage Deployment was successfully held on 6 May 2026 at Le Méridien Hotel, Putrajaya.
The workshop was officially opened by Yang Berusaha Puan Norsham binti Abdul Latip, Deputy Secretary General (Technology Development), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI)
The programme featured keynote sharing by Dr. Ng Sing Muk from Sarawak Energy Berhad and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rozan Mohamad Yunus from the Fuel Cell Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia followed by a forum panel moderated by Prof. Dato’ ChM. Dr. Mohammad Kassim. The panel included representatives from SEDA Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and TNBResearch, who shared perspectives on technology readiness, policy support, industrial adoption, opportunities and talent development.
The workshop also brought together participants from agencies, industry, and academia, including MOSTI, Nanomalaysia Berhad , MIGHT, National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), SEDA Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, TNB Research, PETRONAS, Hydrexia, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Universiti Tenaga Nasional, National University of Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, and Sunway University.
Among the key highlights were the roundtable discussions, which focused on four important areas: policies, standards and certifications; bridging the R&D-to-industry gap; academic talent development at university level; and strengthening the triple helix ecosystem involving government, industry, and academia.
The discussions reinforced that Malaysia’s hydrogen journey is not only about technology, but also about building the right ecosystem through policy readiness, standards, market demand, talent development, industrial collaboration, and practical deployment pathways.
The workshop also provided a meaningful platform to identify possible collaboration areas and practical next steps to support early-stage hydrogen deployment in Malaysia.
Institute of Sustainable Energy (ISE), UNITEN - HICoE would like to sincerely thank all speakers, panelists, participants, the secretariat team, and all supporting parties for their valuable contributions in making this workshop a success. Special appreciation is also extended to Faculty of Science and Technology UKM (FST-UKM) as co-organiser, and to UNITEN R&D Sdn. Bhd. (URND) and the AAIBE Chair of Renewable Energy as sponsors.
May this initiative continue to support stronger partnerships, pilot initiatives, and capacity-building efforts towards Malaysia’s green hydrogen aspirations.
