Our Journey with the Shadow Teacher Program at Tadika Sri Montessori Little Shepherd π©π»βπ«
Since January 2026, we began a meaningful initiative at Tadika Sri Montessori Little Shepherd: our Shadow Teacher Program for children on the autism spectrum. What started as a step of faith has now become a journey filled with learning, compassion, and hope.
Currently, we have two children with autism, each supported by their own dedicated shadow teacher. This one-on-one approach allows us to truly see, understand, and meet each child where they are. We recognize that every child with autism is unique, each with different needs, sensitivities, learning styles, and pace of development.
Our shadow teachers do more than guide in the classroom. They walk alongside the children in their daily experiences, including attending therapy sessions. Through this, they gain deeper insight into each childβs challenges, strengths, and emotional world. This understanding allows us to align our teaching methods with the childβs individual developmental needs.
The impact has been profound.
In just a few short months, we have witnessed transformations that deeply move us. Children who once avoided eye contact are now beginning to connect through their gaze. Those who had no spoken words are now expressing themselves through simple words, phrases, and even songs. These may seem like small steps, but for us, they are powerful breakthroughs, each one a celebration of growth.
The strength of this program lies in its personalization. With focused, one-on-one guidance, we are able to support each child in specific areas that matter most to them at that moment. Learning becomes not just structured, but meaningful and responsive.
More than progress, this journey has given us something even more valuable - hope.
Hope for the children, as they begin to find their voice and connection with the world.
Hope for the families, as they witness their childrenβs growth.
And hope for us as educators, as we continue to learn, adapt, and serve with greater awareness and love.
This experience reminds us that with the right support, patience, and understanding, every child has the potential to grow, connect, and shine in their own unique way β€οΈβ¨
