We had our first happy joy joy art jam for families at Tommy le Baker at the National Tennis Centre on Jalan Duta last weekend. It went tremendously awesome. Parents were happy and the kids had loads of fun. They learned to work together, how to paint intuitively and not think, just enjoy the act of making, break into dance moves and bringing joy to one another. Huge gratitude and shout out to Tommy and the team at TLB, the kids, moms and dads!

Play and art go together hand in hand like strawberries and cream or jam and scones or roti kosong and teh tarik.
When children play with art amongst their friends or new friends at an open area surrounded by nature or any urban surroundings with greenery, this increases better oxygen intake, improving social skills when they interact with their friends and making new friends helps them build their self confidence. When they draw, they are moving their limbs, squatting or just walking to draw at another spot because he or she wanted to talk to their friend drawing at another spot. Body movements encourages a whole new muscle workout, even if it's the tiniest action of standing up or lifting their arm to draw a huge shape.
Just being outside is a total plus on lazy, chill out Sunday evenings. It's a great way for not only the kids but parents and adults to socialize more often, in person, hang out, catch up, maybe join in the fun, perhaps.
I feel that it's really nice to create a sense of community amongst everyone in a neighbourhood, hence I'm hoping to build more chalk drawing art jam communities in and around nearby whereabouts in pj and damansara, possibly even in nearby KL areas, TTDI, MK or maybe even Bangsar.
How this actually started is a pretty random idea, few years ago I ran a random chalk drawing art jam with a friend of mine at the BU7 Community Park, the turn out was fantastic. It wasn't the first time my friend and the neighbourhood ran it but it was a first time with me.
Last Sunday, we ran another one. A long awaited one. It was amazing! Kids interacting with other kids of all ages from different background is important for a child to develop respect for one another and making new friends improves their social skills. We will be running more of it more often, possibly twice a month! If we are able to make it a regular occurrence, please do come by and join us or if there's empty concrete areas in your neighbourhood park, please feel free to drop me a dm and we'll see how we can start one in your neighbourhood park.
