Todayโs Crossing the Threshold of Fear session brought together new signers in a safe and supportive space to practise, learn, and grow together.
Participants shared personal experiences, reflected on their fears and challenges, and explored ways to communicate more confidently with the Deaf community. What started with nervousness slowly turned into meaningful conversations, encouragement, and connection.
Thank you to everyone who showed up with courage and openness today.

Following Flora Guzmรกnโs visit to our cafรฉ in April and an inspiring lunch with our Co-Founder, Agnes, we were honoured to host an exclusive informal (by invitation only) networking afternoon on 2 May. The event brought together a select group of Malaysian and US interpreters for an afternoon of meaningful connection.
Our guest of honor, Flora Guzmรกn, is a seasoned Costa Rican ASL and IS interpreter with over 30 years of experience. As an Associate Professor at the University of Santa Paula and an Oversight Officer for ASIMEL (National Association of Costa Rican Sign Language Interpreters and Mediators), Flora has been a tireless advocate for the Deaf community in Dubai and around the world. Previously, she brought her deep expertise to the Deaf Inclusion Team at ImInclusive.
The session provided a unique space for interpreters to share experiences, tackle shared challenges, and spark ideas for future collaborations. Floraโs lifelong commitment to accessibility continues to be a profound source of inspiration for our team. More information on Flora on her LinkedIn account (https://www.linkedin.com/in/flora-guzmรกn-mora-54a997238).
Flora is on our list of panel guest speakers at our forthcoming International Day of Sign Languages series of talks in September 2026.

In April, we partnered with students from the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, as part of their SULAM Service-Learning Malaysia project. Their focus was to promote awareness and inclusivity for the Deaf community, especially regarding social participation and employment. RC Deaf Missions Malaysia was honoured to be chosen as the key collaborator for this initiative. The students interviewed our Deaf staff to gain valuable insights, and enjoyed learning some Malaysian Sign Language (BIM) along the way. It was inspiring to hear the aspirations of these future lawyers, particularly their interest in policy changes and enforcement of the PWD Act. We wish them every success. Here are highlights from the interview, celebrating our meaningful collaboration.

At the 1st Malaysia Deaf-Blindness Conjoint Conference 2025 held in November 2025, we had the great honour of meeting distinguished Malaysian and European experts from around the world. One of the remarkable speakers we were privileged to meet was Puan Zaimie binti Zainal Abidin (Penolong Kanan Pendidikan Khas) from SMK Putrajaya Presint 18 (1). Listening to her experiences and thought-provoking perspectives on education and support for DeafBlind students, as well as our brief meeting with her at the conference, led to a meaningful visit to her school, where she graciously and kindly hosted us. The visit was truly memorable, leaving us with bursts of endearing exposure and immersion that we will never forget. It opened new perspectives and gave us a much clearer understanding of both the teachersโ experiences and the learning journeys of Deaf and DeafBlind students in an integrated setting. It was a great space for networking. Witnessing the unwavering dedication of the teachers was incredibly humblingโfrom classroom settings to the vocational skills section and counselling, all aimed at supporting and empowering Deaf students.
We also wish to extend our gratitude to Dr Mazira binti Mohd Zain, the Pengetua, whom we briefly met, for welcoming us so warmly to the school. This enriching tour and immersive experience would not have been possible without Puan Zaimieโs support. Thank you, Puan Zaimie, for being such an inspiring individual. Your reflections and the perspectives you shared were truly meaningful and will continue to inspire us as we strive to do more for the Deaf and DeafBlind community.
Here we share with her permission, scenes of our experiences at the school.
