What an incredible evening at MIMPJ Toastmasters Club Meeting #709!
Just like the weather outside, we embraced the beauty of growth and adaptation at MIMPJ Toastmasters Club Meeting #709, themed "Changing Seasons"! ππ±
Here is a recap of how the night unfolded:
π Education Series & Opening
We kicked off early with a brilliant Education Series on Speech Openings delivered by Judy Lee, DTM. President Priti Sanghavi, PM5, then officially welcomed everyone, followed by our Toastmaster of the Evening (TME), Mariatini Othman, TM, and our Grammarian Judy Lee, DTM, who introduced our Word of the Day: Segue (SEG-way), a smooth, uninterrupted transition.
π€ Session 1: Prepared Project Speeches
Our speakers truly brought their A-game to the stage:
Mah Kong Howe, PM1 explored non-verbal communication in "My Exploration of Intentional & Unintentional Body Language".
Hong Soon Loong, DTM delivered a masterclass in spontaneous wit with back-to-back impromptu humor speeches.
Peter Tham, PM3 took on the ultimate challenge in "When the computer can think faster than you," skillfully keeping his composure while managing a deliberately "difficult" audience.
π Session 2: Table Topics
Chuan Teik Boon, DTM, led an engaging and sharp Table Topics session, testing our impromptu speaking skills and giving everyone a chance to practice seamless segues of their own!
π Session 3: Evaluations & Feedback
Growth happens with feedback! Huge thanks to our dedicated evaluators and technical team for their insightful reviews:
Speech Evaluators: Lawrence Lau (PM4), Lim Gim Kim (DTM), and Priti Sanghavi (PM5).
Table Topics Evaluator: Mah Kong Howe, PM1.

Half the year is gone, how are those personal growth goals tracking?

Great communication isn't a natural talent, itβs a muscle. We provide the gym. ποΈββοΈ

Ever wondered what actually happens inside a Toastmasters meeting? π
No, we don't stand in a circle and recite long poems.
Itβs a supportive playground for real-world communication! Every meeting has three simple parts:
1οΈβ£ Prepared Speeches: Members practice presentation skills on topics they choose.
2οΈβ£ Table Topics: A fun session where guests and members practice impromptu, 1β2 minute speaking on the spot (completely optional for guests!).
3οΈβ£ Constructive Evaluations: Positive, actionable feedback so everyone leaves better than they arrived.
Come sneak a peek as a guest for free. No pressure to speak, just come see how it works!
π Next Meeting: 9 June 2026 (Tuesday) 7.00 pm - 9.00 pm | BAC Petaling Jaya

What an incredible evening we had at MIMPJ Toastmasters Club Meeting #708! We gathered at our BAC VSQ venue to celebrate Mother's Day and challenge ourselves to remain STEADFAST in our communication journeys.
If you missed it, here is a recap of the sparkling highlights from the night:
π§ Pre-Meeting Education: Audience Awareness
We kicked off the evening early with an insightful discussion led by Judy Lee, DTM. She broke down the nuances of Audience Awareness, sharing actionable strategies on how to read the room, pivot when necessary, and tailor our delivery to deeply connect with any audience.
π€ Captivating Prepared Speeches
Our prepared speech session raised the bar, showcasing incredible growth and vulnerability:
Naveen took the stage and delivered a powerful speech, pairing his narrative with a masterful use of body language that kept everyone visually locked in.
Kong Howe beautifully bridged the gap between the podium and the audience, using humorous and relatable anecdotes to illustrate his personal communication style.
π Heartwarming Table Topics
In honor of the Mother's Day theme, our impromptu speaking session, steered by Table Topics Master Chuan Teik Boon, DTM, was lively, emotional, and highly engaging. Members and guests stepped up to share beautiful and deeply touching tales about mothers and the profound lessons of motherhood.
β€οΈ A Massive Thank You to Our Team!
A successful meeting relies heavily on the dedication of the people behind the scenes. A huge shoutout and special thanks to all of our incredible roleplayers and evaluators!
From our insightful speech evaluators (Mariatini, DTM Kaarthigayan) to our sharp technical evaluation team (Priti on Grammar, Kathy on the Ah-Counter, Syafiq as Timer), your constructive feedback is what helps us grow week after week.

What's Next?

Gina Lim, our beloved charter member, touched many lives through her warmth, encouragement and friendship. Her spirit and generosity has left a lasting impact on many of us at MIMPJ TMC.
To honour Gina and the impact she had on our community, we will be coming together for a Remembering Gina sessionβ€οΈ to share stories and reflections, and celebrate Ginaβs life.

Reflecting on a day well spent at The Leaf @ Janda Baik for our MIMPJ Toastmasters Retreat on April 26, 2026. It was a perfect blend of strategic growth, creative energy, and genuine connection.
Highlights of the Day
The "Honesty" Problem: Our ice-breaking session turned into a hilarious highlight as we played "2 Truths 1 Lie". It turns out some of us are far too honest to lie effectively, while others were so enthusiastic they accidentally shared way more than just two truths. It was a wonderful way to learn the unexpected layers of our club family.
Deep Dives & Strategic Vision: We kicked off the morning with a formal EGM before diving into a SWOT analysis. Focusing on our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats gave us a clear-eyed look at where we stand and where we want to grow.
Setting the Bar for 2026-2027: We closed our official sessions by defining our goals and priorities for the upcoming term, ensuring we left with a unified vision for the year ahead.
Winding Down: We capped off the experience with a casual dinner at Dancing Fish @ The Campus, transitioning from club business to simply enjoying each other's company.
A Heartfelt Thank You
An event like this only succeeds because of the people behind it.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to:
Kong Howe: For leading us through a productive and insightful SWOT analysis that will guide our growth.
Maria: For bringing the energy and facilitating the interactive theatre activity that got us all out of our shells.
Tatee: For your vulnerability and for sharing your powerful Toastmasters journey, your story was truly the heart of our afternoon.
The Drivers: A huge thank you to the members who kindly volunteered to drive others to the venue; your generosity made this retreat accessible for everyone.
The Logistics Team: Special thanks to Priti and Judy for coordinating our lunch and keeping the day running smoothly.
We are ready to take on the 2026-2027 term with renewed momentum!
