Congratulations BIPA, on the launch of the Copyright Module within the WIPO Industrial Property Administration System (IPAS). This milestone represents a significant advancement in the modernisation and digital transformation of Namibia's intellectual property ecosystem. This important development strengthens Namibia's intellectual property infrastructure by enabling the efficient digital management of copyright records, improving service delivery, and enhancing protection for creators, researchers, innovators, and rights holders.
As an established Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC), NUST welcomes this development and reaffirms its commitment to promoting innovation, research commercialisation, and the effective use of intellectual property systems to support a vibrant creative sector and a competitive knowledge-based economy.
NAMIBIA TO BECOME FIRST WIPO MEMBER STATE TO LAUNCH COPYRIGHT MODULE ON IPAS
On Friday, 26 June 2026, Namibia will make history as the first WIPO member state to launch and use the copyright module on the Industrial Property Administration System (IPAS) a landmark moment for the country's intellectual property landscape.
Ahead of this milestone launch, a delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has arrived in Namibia to work alongside the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA) team and local copyright filers in final preparations for the system's debut.
The WIPO delegation comprises:
• Mr Hisham Fayed — Head of Global Delivery and Support
• Mr Gregory Sadyalunda — Project Manager, IP Office Business Solutions
• Mr Alhaz Idrisi — Technical Expert
The new copyright module will allow creators and creative practitioners musicians, authors, filmmakers and other content creators to file for voluntary copyright registration from the comfort of their own homes or offices, anywhere in the country.
This initiative places the creative industry, a sector at the core of Namibia's Fifth National Development Plan (NDP6) and a national development priority, firmly in focus.
Voluntary registration is paramount: it provides creators with certification of their works and unlocks new avenues for the commercialisation of copyright content.
The system has been implemented with the support of WIPO, of which Namibia is a member state. Namibia is ready.
The launch takes place on 26 June 2026 at BIPA, with the WIPO delegation already on the ground assisting in final preparations.
