The Chief Regional Officer (CRO) at the Erongo Regional Council, Dr Mupenzeni S. Ntelamo, paid a courtesy call on our CEO, Mr Erick Fundula Nenghwanya, this week, with discussions focused on opportunities to expand vocational education and training capacity, especially in the Erongo Region, in support of national development priorities. The engagement considered the potential for a future-focused vocational training institution that could attract learners from across Namibia and equip them with specialised skills required by the country's rapidly evolving economy.
According to Dr Ntelamo, the Erongo Region is experiencing significant investment in mining, oil and gas, green hydrogen, tourism and other sectors. While opportunities continue to grow, industries have identified shortages of specialised skills, resulting in the importation of expertise that could potentially be developed locally. The discussions explored how a specialised training institution could help address these challenges by offering innovative programmes aligned to emerging industries and supporting greater participation by Namibians in high-value sectors of the economy.

We are proud to celebrate the role played by our Valombola Vocational Training Centre - VVTC in the manufacture of 700 school furniture items - 300 chairs and 400 desks valued at N$297,696.00 - officially handed over to schools in the Khomas Region through the Office of the Governor at the Khomas Regional Council.
Funded through pledges made during a National Fish Consumption Day Gala Dinner and facilitated by the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT), the furniture was designed and manufactured by Valombola VTC trainees, turning vocational skills into a practical solution for one of Namibia's pressing education challenges.
Receiving the donation this afternoon, Honourable Sam Shafishuna Nujoma, Governor of the Khomas Region, said: "The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust showed us that the same hands that feed the nation can also help in its education."
NFCPT CEO, Victor Pea, commended Valombola VTC for producing the furniture, noting that the project became "more than just a procurement exercise" and an investment in skills development and cooperation between public institutions.
Deputy Director at the Ministry of Education Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Petrina Shiweda, welcomed the contribution, saying: "Your contribution goes beyond the provision of furniture; it is an investment in the dignity and well-being of our learners."
This is TVET in action - building furniture, building skills and building Namibia's future.

This year’s Day of the African Child calls attention to universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene for every child in Africa. Access to these basic needs plays an important role in children’s health, dignity and ability to learn. As we mark this day, we are reminded that creating better conditions for children also creates stronger foundations for their future.
