*“WHEN THE CHAIR FORGETS THE MAN WHO SITS ON IT”*
Leadership is a strange elevation in human existence. The moment a man becomes *a Boss, CEO, Director, Clergy, Administrator, Chairman, or Head,* something silently begins to change, not around him alone, but within him.
✍️Yesterday, he was approachable.
✍️Yesterday, he listened.
✍️Yesterday, correction was normal.
But today, position has surrounded him with silence.
And the greatest danger of leadership is not opposition, *it is the absence of honest correction.*
1. *At the level of Oga Kpata Kpata, who truly corrects you?*
2. *Who tells you:*
> “Sir, you are wrong.”
3. *Who advises you without fear of punishment?*
4. *Who rebukes you without risking transfer, humiliation, suspension or spiritual intimidation?*
Many leaders unconsciously create environments where *correction becomes rebellion and truth becomes disrespect.*
Yet the same leader freely scolds subordinates publicly, rebukes harshly, humiliates openly and sometimes destroys confidence with careless words, forgetting that those under him are human beings entrusted into his care, not properties placed under his control.
✓Leadership is not ownership.
✓Leadership is stewardship.
*THE PARADOX OF POWER.*
*_One painful reality in human society is this:_*
A leader may commit the same mistake a subordinate commits, *yet judgment differs.*
When the subordinate errs, *punishment comes swiftly.*
When the leader errs *excuses appear:*
✓“Pressure of office.”
✓“Administrative decision.”
✓“Misunderstanding.”
✓“Authority discretion.”
*But truth remains constant.*
✓Wrong does not change because of rank.
✓The difference between the leader and the follower is often just *two invisible forces:*
✅ Privilege
✅ Grace
*Nothing more.*
Many people behaving calmly in authority today might have acted worse if circumstances had reversed earlier in life. *Grace simply placed one person ahead temporarily.*
*Position does not equal perfection.*
*A LIFE STORY WORTH LEARNING FROM*
There was once a highly respected Director named *Chief Emmanuel Okorie.* He rose from poverty through discipline and intelligence. When he became head of a large institution, everyone celebrated him as a symbol of success.
At first, he led with humility.
But gradually, power changed his atmosphere.
✍️Nobody interrupted him anymore.
✍️Nobody questioned his decisions.
✍️Staff stood when he entered.
✍️His words became final law.
*_Soon, correction disappeared from his environment._*
One day, a young officer respectfully pointed out an administrative error that could cost the organization millions.
Instead of listening, *Chief Okorie felt challenged.*
In anger, *he shouted before everyone:*
> “Who are you to correct me? Do you know how many years I have served?”
The young officer was embarrassed publicly and later was transferred.
✓ Fear entered the organization.
From that day, nobody corrected the Director again, *even when mistakes were obvious.*
Years passed.
A major financial decision approved without review led to institutional collapse. Investigations followed. Leadership changed.
*Chief Okorie was removed.*
✍️Ironically, the newly appointed Acting Director was the same young officer he once humiliated.✍️
*Life had completed its circle.*
During their first official meeting, *Chief Okorie walked into the office, now as a subordinate.*
The young Director stood up, greeted him respectfully, and said:
> “Sir, please sit. Your experience is still valuable here.
✓No revenge.
✓No humiliation.
✓Only dignity.
*That moment broke Chief Okorie emotionally.*
*He later confessed:*
> “My greatest mistake was not the financial error… it was creating an environment where nobody could correct me.”
*THE DANGER OF UNCORRECTABLE LEADERS:*
👉A leader who cannot be corrected becomes dangerous unknowingly.
*Such leadership produces:*
👌Fear instead of loyalty
👌Silence instead of innovation
👌Pretence instead of sincerity
👌Compliance instead of commitment
✓ People begin to obey outwardly but withdraw inwardly.
✓ And once people withdraw their hearts, leadership has already failed, even while the title remains.
*WORDS: THE INVISIBLE LEGACY*
_Every leader must understand this eternal truth:_
People forget instructions, *but they never forget how you made them feel.*
🤏The worker you insult today is someone’s child.
🤏The member you disgrace publicly carries emotional wounds home.
🤏The junior officer you belittle may someday supervise you.
🤏Leadership language matters.
✍️Correction is necessary: *yes.*
✍️Discipline is important: *yes.*
*👍But method determines legacy.*
✓Correct privately.
✓Guide patiently.
✓Rebuke with dignity.
✓Preserve human worth even while condemning wrong actions.
*✓Authority without compassion becomes oppression.✓*
*THE ROTATION OF LIFE:*
Life operates like a rotating wheel.
*Today:*
1. You sign appointments.
2. Tomorrow, someone signs yours.
*Today:*
1. People wait outside your office.
2. Tomorrow, you may wait outside another person’s office.
*Today:*
1. You command.
2. Tomorrow, you may request.
✊Office is temporary.
✊Relationship is permanent.
✊Title expires.
✊Character remains.
*The greatest investment in leadership is not wealth accumulation or positional dominance, it is human relationship capital.*
*ADVICE TO THOSE AT THE PEAK:*
*_To every leader occupying high office:_*
✅ Create people who can tell you the truth.
✅ Permit correction without punishment.
✅ Separate ego from responsibility.
✅ Listen more than you speak.
✅ Remember your beginning.
✅ Treat subordinates as future leaders.
*Surround yourself not with praise singers but with sincere advisers.*
Because the day correction stops reaching you, downfall has quietly begun.
*TO EVERY HUMAN BEING:*
_This message goes beyond offices._
*It touches:*
✓Family heads 👨👩👧👦
✓Teachers 👩🏫
✓Clergy ⛪
✓Business owners 💼
✓Government officials 🏛️
✓Community leaders 🤝
*Anywhere authority exists, humility must live beside it.*
✓ Life itself is simple.
✓Human pride complicates it.
*CONCLUSION*
_Always remember:_
1. You are not great because of the chair.
2. The chair is honored because you occupy it.
3. One day, another will sit there.
4. When that day comes, what will remain?
• Not your shouting.
• Not your authority.
• Not your power.
*Only the memories people carry about how you treated them when you had the chance to dominate but chose humanity instead.*
✍️Lead with caution.
✍️Correct with wisdom.
✍️Speak with kindness.
Rule with humility.
Because position is temporary, *but the legacy of your conduct is everlasting.
