EDO TRIUMPH!

The Edo State-led Nigerian Debate Team has recorded an outstanding achievement at the Nigeria–Indonesia Bilateral Debate Tournament held in Jakarta, Indonesia, securing a flawless 4–0 victory against the host nation.

Representing Nigeria with distinction, the Team-Edo excelled in every debate session through strong reasoning, effective communication and teamwork. The students successfully defended their positions across key topics, earning praises from the adjudicators for their analytical skills, clarity of expression and respectful engagement throughout the competition.

This remarkable achievement reflects the growing investment in quality education in Edo State. It also demonstrates the capacity of Edo students to compete and succeed on the international stage while proudly representing both the state and the nation.

This victory aligns with the vision of the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, whose continuous commitment to quality education continues to create opportunities for young people to excel. As an education-loving governor, his support for learning and human capital development is helping to shape a brighter future for the next generation.

The success of the debate team also resonates strongly with the Governor’s S.H.I.N.E. The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) commencement a 3-Day Capacity Building Programme for EMIS and Planning Officers on Data Management and Analysis. The training which kicked off today marks another significant milestone in the Edo State Government's commitment to strengthening the basic education sector through technology and data-driven planning.

A major highlight of the opening day was the distribution of laptops and other digital gadgets to PRS Officers from the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State. These essential tools will greatly enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting, thereby improving the quality and reliability of educational data across the state. This initiative reflects the shared vision of the Edo State Government, Edo SUBEB, and UBEC to promote innovation, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making for the continuous growth of the education sector.

The Board and the entire management of Edo SUBEB deeply appreciate His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his visionary leadership and commitment towards basic educational development. IMPROVING INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN FOR BETTER LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board successfully conducted a 2-day onboarding programme for newly recruited and existing Instructional Design Officers (IDOs) aimed at strengthening instructional delivery, enhancing professional capacity, and aligning officers with the Board’s vision for quality basic education in Edo State.

The onboarding session provided participants with practical insights into instructional design processes, digital lesson development, classroom support strategies, scripted lesson delivery, monitoring and evaluation procedures, and the effective use of technology to improve teaching and learning outcomes across public basic education schools.

Participants were engaged in the mandate and operational structure of Edo SUBEB, expectations for Instructional Design Officers, professional ethics, teamwork, data management, and innovative approaches to curriculum implementation.

The training which was facilitated by the Curriculum Development Officer, Mr. Dele Salami further created an opportunity for both newly recruited and existing IDOs to share experiences, build collaboration, and develop a unified approach toward achieving improved learning outcomes in schools.

The programme reaffirmed Edo SUBEB’s commitment to continuous professional development and the strengthening of instructional systems in line with the education reform agenda of the Edo State Government.

The Director, Schools Support Services, Dr. Augustine Osegbe, Board Secretary, Barr (Mrs.) Beatrice Ada Oluku and the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ebanehita Sonia Omonzane took turns to encourage participants to take the assignment very seriously and be proud to be the engine room where standardised lessons are developed for all public basic schools in Edo State. The team lead/facilitator was equally commended for putting the team together.

At the close of the 2-day programme, IDOs took an affirmation to actively contribute their own quota towards improving teaching and learning outcomes across the state.

CAPACITY BUILDING FOR SOCIAL MOBILIZATION OFFICERS (SMOs)

The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has commenced a three-day training programme for Social Mobilization Officers (SMOs) aimed at strengthening their capacity for effective service delivery and community engagement within the basic education sector.

The training is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and strategies required to effectively carry out their responsibilities in promoting access to quality basic education, community sensitization, advocacy, mobilization and fostering stronger collaboration between schools, parents and stakeholders to improve learning outcomes across Edo State.

The Executive Chairman of Edo State SUBEB, Hon. Ebanehita Sonia Omonzane, who was present at the commencement of the training programme, encouraged participants to maximize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and competence for effective discharge of their duties. She emphasized the critical role of Social Mobilization Officers in driving community participation and supporting educational development across the state. As part of efforts to improve efficiency and ensure seamless operations, tablets were distributed to participants to aid communication, data management and other field activities necessary for effective service delivery.

Hon. Ebanehita Sonia Omonzane expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his commitment towards strengthening the education sector in Edo State. She also appreciated the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for its continuous partnership and support in implementing impactful initiatives aimed at building capacity within the education system and ensuring inclusive, accessible and quality basic education for learners across the state.
