🎤 POV: My classroom has officially turned into a talk show set. 😂

One funny thing I’ve noticed is this: whenever it’s time to give a two-minute speech in class, some of my learners suddenly forget everything they prepared or say they don't know what to say.Total memory loss! 😅

So, I do give them a speech outlines to guide their presentation. Now, we have a full talk show activity, Amazing, right? Apparently, children’s memories work on mysterious terms. 😂

This particular learner is one of my proud moments. When she first started public speaking classes, standing up to speak felt like climbing a mountain. She often didn’t know what to say and needed speech outlines to guide her.

Fast forward to today, and it’s a completely different story.

She now knows how to structure her ideas, organize her thoughts, and deliver speeches confidently. In fact, she’s usually eager to speak whenever the opportunity comes up.

One of the things I love most about teaching is the beautiful connection we build with our learners. They come with their funny comments, surprises, questions, and little acts of love that make every class memorable.

After class, they often say, “Miss Kay, we have a surprise for you.”
And the surprise? A sweet note saying, “Miss Kay, I love you” and “Thank you for the class.” 🥹

Moments like this remind me that teaching is not just about knowledge. It is also about connection, confidence, warmth, and helping every child feel seen.

This month in my public speaking class, I taught my learners about emotional intelligence and why every speaker must become an emotional detective.

Before you speak, you must observe.
While you speak, you must listen.
And as you speak, you must be sensitive enough to know when your audience is following, when they are confused, and when they are slowly drifting away.

That is what emotional awareness does.

It helps a speaker understand the feelings, reactions, and signals of the audience. It teaches you when to pause, when to adjust your tone, when to simplify your words, and when to connect more deeply.

The truth is, many people speak without reading the room. They talk, but they do not observe. They communicate, but they do not connect.

As a speaker, your words should not just be heard. They should be felt, understood, and remembered.

That is why emotional intelligence is not just important for adults. It is a skill children should learn early.
