“I've been paying for online courses that have been on my tab for years that I've never touched but the fact that they followed up, I said I'm going to do this.
At first I was overwhelmed when I paid for the course. Everything was going fast but the team was following me back to back even if it was midnight, they would still follow up.
Once I explained the problem to them, they would find solutions.
My plan after the program is to do PMP because I'm targeting international organizations and remote opportunities.”
This was shared during one of our live offboarding sessions inside the Workplace Fundamental Skills (WFS) Program at the Skilled for Work Academy by I-Train Africa.
Many people do not struggle because they lack access to learning.
They struggle because they start alone, lose momentum, and never finish.

🟡Accountability and support from dedicated teams
🟡Workplace tools and digital skills employers value
🟡Greater confidence in pursuing career growth opportunities

"85% Of Your Job Success Has Nothing To Do With Your Degree.” What then do employers actually hire for?
Most people immediately think of degrees, certifications, and technical skills but here's the reality:
Technical skills are important. They help you become a lawyer, doctor, engineer, accountant, designer, or data analyst but they are only part of the equation.
Research has consistently shown that the majority of job success is linked to something else:
✅Your ability to communicate.
✅Your ability to solve problems.
✅Your ability to work with people.
✅Your ability to use workplace tools.
✅Your ability to function effectively in a professional environment.
These are what we call Fundamental Workplace Skills.
The challenge is that most students spend years developing technical skills, but very little time developing the skills that employers assess every day.
That is why many graduates leave school qualified on paper but struggle to compete for opportunities.
The smartest thing you can do is understand what employers need and start building those skills early.
The goal is not just to graduate, The goal is to become employable.

One thing opportunities across different continents taught me is that opportunities rarely go to the most qualified person in the room.
That surprises many people.
For a long time, we have been taught that qualifications are the ultimate differentiator.
What I observed was different.
Across fellowships, leadership programmes, innovation labs, international collaborations, and professional environments, I repeatedly met people from different countries, backgrounds, and industries.
The people who stood out most were not necessarily the people with the longest list of credentials.
They were people who could communicate clearly.
People who could work effectively with others.
People who could adapt to unfamiliar environments.
People who could contribute value consistently.
People who understood how to operate professionally.
That observation changed the way I think about career growth.
It also reinforced something I have believed for years.
Preparation is bigger than qualifications.
This is one of the reasons Workplace Fundamental Skills (WFS) focuses on workplace communication, collaboration, professionalism, digital workplace tools, and workplace readiness.
Opportunities may open a door, your ability to function effectively often determines what happens after that door opens.
Registration for the next and final batch of Operation Get Employed (OGE) is currently ongoing.
Through OGE, undergraduates, corps members, and graduates with 0–2 years of experience can access Workplace Fundamental Skills (WFS) at a subsidised rate through the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship.

A degree will not prepare your child for work and many parents are discovering this too late after graduation.
Years of commitment go into ensuring children complete school successfully and graduation is often seen as the end of that journey.
In reality, it is the beginning of a different evaluation.
Two young people can graduate with the same degree.
One transitions into work with ease.
The other struggles to start.
The difference is workplace readiness.
Employers no longer evaluate academic qualification alone.
They assess communication, digital competence, adaptability, problem solving, collaboration, and workplace confidence.
These determine how quickly a child or ward can function in real work environments.
Many parents only recognise this gap after school.
Education builds knowledge, The workplace rewards readiness.
Getting a child or ward through school is important, preparing them for the workplace is equally important.
Workplace Fundamental Skills (WFS) helps build that readiness before graduation.
If I were a parent, I would enrol my child or ward today at www.itrainafrica.com/wfs
