Question of the day

Choking intervention

11/06/2026

🚨 CHOKING IN CHILDREN – ACT FAST, SAVE A LIFE 🚨

Choking can happen in seconds… but your response can make all the difference 💔➡️❤️

👶 Know the signs:
• Unable to speak or cry
• Weak or no cough
• Difficulty breathing
• Turning blue (late sign)
• Grabbing the throat

⚡ What to do:
✔️ If coughing → encourage coughing
✔️ If not breathing → START choking response
✔️ Infants: 5 back blows + 5 chest thrusts
✔️ Children: 5 back blows + abdominal thrusts

🚑 If unresponsive:
• Call for help immediately
• Start CPR
• Check mouth ONLY if you see the object

⚠️ Never do blind finger sweep!

🍎 Prevention matters:
Avoid small hard foods (nuts, grapes, popcorn)
Keep small objects away
Always supervise children during meals

💡 Remember: Early action = LIFE SAVING

Question if the day

💡 Think about lung anatomy and where the lower lobes are best heard during posterior assessment.

✨ Nursing Tip: The scapula can block clear breath sounds — always assess around it, not over it!

🫁 LUNG SOUND LOCATIONS – MASTER YOUR ASSESSMENT

Auscultation isn’t just listening… it’s detecting early signs of disease👂✨

📍 Know WHERE to listen:**
• Anterior → upper & middle lobes
• Posterior → MOST important (lower lobes!)
• Lateral → early lower lobe detection

🎧 Normal sounds:
✔️ Vesicular
✔️ Bronchial
✔️ Bronchovesicular

⚠️ Abnormal sounds to NEVER miss:
🚨 Crackles (fluid)
🚨 Wheezes (airway narrowing)
🚨 Rhonchi (secretions)
🚨 Absent sounds = EMERGENCY

💡 Pro Tip:
Always compare side-to-side using a **ladder pattern

Great nurses don’t just listen… they recognize patterns🩺💙
