*A Mother's Cry for Nigeria: Between Fear, Faith, and Hope*

As a mother in Nigeria today, I wake up every morning with mixed emotions. I am grateful for the gift of life, yet burdened by the realities that surround us.
The Nigeria many of us dreamed of seems increasingly distant as insecurity, economic hardship, and moral decline continue to challenge our nation.
Every day, we hear stories of kidnappings, killings, ritual activities, banditry, and the loss of innocent lives.

Children who should be safe in schools are now vulnerable. Families live in fear, uncertain whether their loved ones will return home safely. Mothers go to bed praying for protection over their children and wake up praying again.

The question on many lips is: " *How did we get here?"* To understand our present situation, we must examine it from political, economic, and spiritual perspectives.

*The Political Perspective*

Leadership plays a crucial role in the well-being of any nation. Unfortunately, many Nigerians have lost confidence in government institutions because of corruption, poor governance, weak implementation of policies, and inadequate security measures.

For years, citizens have watched public resources that should have improved education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security disappear through
mismanagement.
The gap between leaders and the people continues to widen, creating frustration and distrust.
When people lose faith in leadership, social unrest grows. Youths become discouraged. Crime finds fertile ground. Communities begin to rely on self-help rather than established institutions.

As a mother, I worry about the kind of political environment my children are inheriting. *Will they grow up believing that integrity matters?* *Will they see leaders who genuinely serve the people?*
These are questions that weigh heavily on many parents' hearts.

*The Economic Perspective*
The economic situation has become one of the greatest sources of pain for Nigerian families.
..Food prices continue to rise. .
..Transportation costs have increased.
..Small businesses struggle to survive.
..Many educated youths remain unemployed or underemployed
..Parents work harder than ever but find it increasingly difficult to provide basic necessities.

Economic hardship does more than empty pockets—it affects mental health, family stability, and social behavior. Desperation can drive some people toward crime, fraud, kidnapping, human trafficking, and other dangerous activities.
When a father cannot provide for his family and a mother cannot adequately feed her children, frustration grows. Hope begins to fade. Communities become vulnerable to exploitation by criminal elements.

As mothers, we often carry the burden of stretching limited resources, finding creative ways to feed our families, and shielding our children from the emotional weight of financial struggles.

*The Spiritual Perspective*
Beyond politics and economics lies a deeper spiritual concern.
*Nigeria is a deeply religious nation.* Churches and mosques are filled every week. Yet many wonder why our spiritual growth is not reflected in our national character.
The increase in greed, corruption, dishonesty, violence, ritual killings, and the obsession with wealth at all costs points to a deeper crisis of values. Many have abandoned principles for profit and conscience for convenience.
The spiritual health of a nation is not measured by the number of religious gatherings but by the character of its people.

As a mother, I believe that one of the greatest battles facing Nigeria today is a battle for the soul of the nation. We are witnessing a conflict between righteousness and corruption, truth and deception, compassion and selfishness.
This is not merely a political or economic problem; it is also a moral and spiritual challenge that requires a return to *integrity,* *accountability* , and *reverence* for *God.*

*The Way Forward
Despite the darkness, I believe Nigeria can rise again.*
1. Responsible Leadership
Leaders must prioritize service over personal gain. Accountability, transparency, and justice must become the foundation of governance.
2. Economic Empowerment
Government and private sectors must create opportunities for entrepreneurship, vocational training, agriculture, and job creation, especially for young people.
3. Security Reform
Security agencies must be properly equipped, trained, and supported to protect lives and property effectively.
4. Value Reorientation
Families, schools, religious institutions, and communities must intentionally teach honesty, hard work, discipline, and respect for human life.
5. Community Participation
Citizens must play active roles in building safer communities, supporting one another, and holding leaders accountable.
6. Spiritual Renewal
We must return to genuine faith that produces righteous living. Prayer remains important, but prayer must be accompanied by action, integrity, and compassion.

A Mother's Hope
Though the challenges are many, I refuse to surrender to despair.

I still believe in Nigeria.

I believe in the resilience of our people.

I believe in the strength of Nigerian mothers who continue to nurture hope in difficult times.

I believe in the youths who dream of a better future.

I believe that God has not abandoned this nation.

As mothers, we will continue to pray, teach, guide, and raise children who value truth, justice, compassion, and hard work.

We will continue to speak hope even when circumstances seem discouraging.

Nigeria is wounded, but she is not finished.

The road to recovery may be long, but healing begins when citizens choose responsibility, leaders embrace accountability, and the nation returns to the values that uphold human dignity.

May God heal Nigeria, protect her people, and guide us toward peace, prosperity, and lasting hope.
