PRESS BRIEFING BY CP BODE OJAJUNI, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, OGUN STATE POLICE COMMAND, HELD AT THE OGUN STATE POLICE COMMAND HEADQUARTERS, ELEWERAN, ABEOKUTA
ON THE INCIDENT, OPERATIONAL DETAILS OF THE RESCUE MISSION, AND HANDING OVER OF FIVE (5) RESCUED STUDENTS TO THE MANAGEMENT OF ICT GATEWAY POLYTECHNIC
Good day, gentlemen of the press.
I, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, wish to brief the general public on the successful rescue of five (5) abducted students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, in a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The incident occurred on 27th April, 2026, at about 2255hrs, when Ipara Division received a distress call of a suspected kidnapping in the Sapade area. Upon receipt of the report, a patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene where an ash-coloured Toyota vehicle was discovered abandoned. The vehicle had visible bullet impacts and blood stains, while mobile phones and other personal belongings were recovered.
Further findings at the scene revealed an identity card belonging to a student of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, confirming that the occupants of the vehicle were students. This necessitated the immediate escalation of the incident and activation of a full-scale rescue operation.
Acting on my directive, tactical units of the Command, including operatives from Isara Area Command, Ipara Division, SWAT, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Quick Response Squad (QRS), and OP MESA, were swiftly mobilised for a coordinated operation.
On 28th April, 2026, at about 1500hrs, the joint teams embarked on sustained bush-combing and intelligence-led tracking operations along suspected escape routes, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Fidiwo axis in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
The sustained operational pressure led to the successful rescue of the five (5) victims.
The victims were immediately evacuated, debriefed, and given first aid before being moved to the Police Hospital, Abeokuta, where they received medical attention. They are in stable condition.
During the operation, the kidnappers engaged our operatives in a gun duel but were overpowered by superior firepower, forcing them to flee with suspected gunshot injuries. No casualty was recorded among our operatives.
I commend the gallantry, professionalism, and swift coordination of all tactical units involved in this operation. The intelligence-driven response was decisive to the success achieved.
I also wish to assure the public that bush-combing operations are ongoing to track, arrest, and bring the fleeing suspects to justice.
The rescued students are hereby handed over to the school authority.
Thank you for your attention.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 19th April 2026, at about 1600hrs, when information was received that three men and a woman were sighted in a bush along Ikhasi Road, Kajola via Omu, illegally repainting a Suzuki mini bus, popularly known as “Korope,” without a registration number.
The vehicle was suspected to be originally yellow in colour before being repainted in white and blue colours in an attempt to alter its identity.
