The moment you put a trophy at the end of it, you have changed the question. Instead of “what did we create together?” it becomes “were we better than them?” That is a completely different experience. And for a lot of kids, it is a damaging one.
Storehouse school of music is one of the only places left where the act of showing up is enough. Where every voice matters simply because it is there. Where the goal is not to be the best in the room but to become something together that none of you could be alone.
