Minutes Summary – MAN Benue State Chapter General Meeting (30th January 2025)

1. Opening & Agenda Adoption
The meeting opened with prayer by Andrew Agwaza.
Agenda adopted by Moses Ayangeakuma, seconded by Michael Shambe.

2. Chairman’s Address
Chairman, E. A. Sev, praised staff-management synergy and school sponsorship of Olympiad participants.
Encouraged members to save for personal sponsorship amid economic challenges.

3. Key Discussions & Resolutions
Minutes Correction: Adjustments made, including correct reporting of school sponsorships.
Bank Handover: Previous EXCO completed financial handover.
Zone Coordination: Engr. Uwua now coordinates Katsina-Ala Zone.
Past Question Repository: Work in progress.
Exam Marking Rights: The Chairman liaised with coordinators to protect members’ rights.
Visit to Vaatia College: Yet to be done, but planned.
Health Update: Mrs. Morga, FMAN, recovering well after surgery.

4. Financial Report
No full report; members urged to pay 2025 dues.

5. Kaduna 2024 & Membership Fees
Annual dues increased: Individuals (₦3,500), Schools (₦3,000 for secondary, ₦2,000 for primary).
Conference Fee: ₦30,000 (late registration attracts ₦10,000 penalty).
Membership Levels: MMAN (₦45,000), FMAN (₦250,000) with eligibility conditions.
Laurels Won: Quiz (Senior – 3rd Place), Olympiad (Primary – 1st Place).
Prize Presentation: Schools to receive prizes directly, state government presentation is optional.

6. 2025 Olympiads
Zonal Stage: 15th March 2025
State Finals: 10th May 2025 in Makurdi
Registration Fee: ₦2,500 per participant.

7. Other Business
Urged for timely release of past question booklets.
Suggested creating a MAN page for visibility.
Announced upcoming AI workshop for schools (details pending).

BENUE PARS LAGOS, RIVERS, EDO, OTHERS AS NATIONAL MATHEMATICS CHAMPIONS EMERGE

The Benue contingent at the ongoing national conference of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN) for the nationwide mathematics competition return adorned in Gold, Silver and Bronze.

The competition is in two fold for the Primary, Junior and Senior categories: Oral quiz and written examination - tagged Olympiad. The competition was keenly contested among the states of federation and the FCT. Results for Benue are as follows:

Senior category: 1st

Olympiad
Primary category: 1st, 2nd

With this eminently decorated performance, Benue state cart home 2 top prizes out of a possible 6, standing shoulder to shoulder with well known achievers like Lagos, Rivers, Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Enugu and Kaduna.

The conference is holding in Benin, Edo state, Nigeria (27th August - 1st September, 2023).
