Maya's Ark Academy is a school committed to building firm foundations. Feel free to explore our page and see how much fun our children have while learning.

We operate the British Early Years Foundation Scheme for our foundation years and a combination of the British/Nigerian Curricula for our Key Stages. We also have extra-curricula activities which takes learning outside our classrooms, cross-curricular linkages that are project and inquiry based and focused on building the skills that will ensure success in the 21st Century.

For a parent to send a bottle of Martinellis to me to cool down the pressure of this first half of the term means our work is truly appreciated and we are highly motivated to do more.πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Please don't get me wrong πŸ™.

I am not saying parents should start sending me drinks before someone will send me Remy Martin one afternoon to cool down 🀣🀣.

All I am saying is:

* Make sure they are properly dressed (wearing the right uniform for each day and not yellow T-shirt,blue jeans trousers and white canvas πŸ™†β€β™€οΈ)
* Try to see that their clothes are ironed as this gives them a sense of confidence (even in the days of box iron, some of us still looked prim and proper. Today, we have electricity, please use it - enough of these rumple clothes in school)
* Endeavour to give them real food - rice, yam, beans, spaghetti etc and not this indomie 3 times out of 5 days or the group that is sending egg roll and coke ( I understand that some days are quite overwhelming but God is our strength πŸ™)
* See that their hair, nails, teeth, ears are cleanπŸ‘
* Check to see that their homework is properly done and their record is up to date.πŸ’ͺ
* Listen to their concerns, fears, worries and address them ( you could call class teachers or me for clarification but not at night for something that can wait until morning πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ)
* Celebrate their victories and success stories.
* Encourage them in their strengths and weaknesses.
* Pray for them and teach them to pray
* Whenever they fall or fail, tell them to try again and if possible, draw stories from the past to butress your point.
* Admonish them when they go wrong and praise them when they are right. ( Create a balance)
* Be a role model
* Bring them early to school so they participate from the onset of each day.
* Don't let them miss school for trivial reasons.
* Ensure they are healthy and strong ( give them enough clean drinking water, let them sleep early, do age appropriate chores, regulate their screen time, check the quantity of sugary things they consume, give them fruits, vegetables and other necessary vitamins)
* Protect their physical, mental and spiritual well-being πŸ™

ABOVE ALL, PAY THEIR SCHOOL FEES ON TIME SO THERE IS NO BREAK IN THE LEARNING PROCESS.

Thank you for appreciating our work πŸ’ͺ.

Together, we will bring up children that will be greater than us πŸ™πŸ’ͺ.

Best regards,
Dr Faith Otti, FCCT.

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY πŸ‘Œ.

This is a well known proverb which played out in our school.

Chantel Ukah ( a Year 5 pupil) told me her teacher made a mistake in counting her marks after Spelling Bee.

I generally thought the teacher had underscored her but by the time I gave her audience to get the full story, I got to know that she scored 17 marks and her teacher mistakenly wrote 18.

This honest act of hers earned her a certificate because this is third term and we are gearing up to add up scores for first, second and third term to determine the winners in the various classes.

Sometimes, the determining factor between 1st and 2nd positions is 1 mark so she could have quietly stayed calm but Chantel refused to take a mark that wasn't hers πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸΎπŸŽŠπŸ‘

She was praised at the assembly and we used the occasion to teach honesty as the best policy even when it seems to *hurt* Pupils were encouraged to always stand for the truthπŸ’ͺπŸ‘.

Thank you Chantel Ukah for this display of honesty and may God bless you as you grow up in truth and integrity πŸ™

In a world where a lot of virtues are considered *old fashioned* and replaced by vices that are considered *smart*, may God help us to raise upright children πŸ™.
